As a Co-ordinator – Public and Media Relations within our Corporate Communications Department, you will be responsible for advising, facilitating and coordinating all communications by developing, producing and implementing communication strategies and providing digital, video and traditional communications expertise as well as strategic public relations advice to various bureaus within Peel Regional Police.

Responsibilities

What will your typical day look like? Collaborates with clients to interpret and define internal and external communication needs; provides expert and editorial advice to identify target audiences; determines message development and delivery vehicles. Responds to inquiries from media, employees and senior management regarding corporate communications services. Develops and implements communication plans that meet the client's needs and support the Strategic Plan and its objectives. Researches, writes and produces engaging, tailored and specialized content that increases employee and community engagement across all communication platforms for better brand awareness and improved community safety. Writes compelling and accurate news releases to attract media attention to assist in investigations, inform the public and increase safety in the community. Develops social media content to engage the public, employees and the community. Proactively seeks out, writes and posts news stories on positive initiatives occurring within the organization. Builds working relationships and trust with traditional media, local outlets and community stakeholders. Produces proactive storytelling, initiates issues management plans, conducts daily media monitoring, data analysis and reporting to enhance trust and increased community safety. Liaises with, and supports, a team of Corporate Communications professionals and Media Officers as a subject matter expert on communications, marketing and public relations. Gathers and manages video, photo, text, electronic graphic material and animations for a variety of communication mediums including the intranet, newsletters, internal communications, printed materials, PeelPolice.ca, and social media. Collaboratively executes multiple marketing and social media calendars to ensure target goals and dates are met. Regularly measures campaign performance and trends to report against objectives and identify opportunities on social media. Interacts with PRP social media accounts by writing social posts, using best practices including the maintenance of tracking tools, and identifies and reports imposter social media accounts. Attends events and functions to capture video and photographic material for Corporate Communication products. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

You are someone with: A Degree or Diploma in Corporate Communications, Digital Marketing, Journalism, English or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Social media training and experience required. A minimum of three years' experience in Journalism, Public and Media Relations or Corporate Communications. Demonstrated ability to interpret data from social media platforms. Working knowledge in the operation of digital SLR and video cameras Demonstrated intermediate knowledge of related computer applications pertinent to the function. Hootsuite certification an asset. Demonstrated organizational skills Demonstrated project management skills Demonstrated oral communication and interpersonal skills Superior writing and editing skills Demonstrated ability to work in a co-operative environment to gather information from across the organization and generate communications Ability to work independently Valid Ontario Driver's Licence (Class G) with full driving privileges

What we offer
The salary range for this permanent, full-time position is $57,437.00 - $90,090.00 per annum. Peel Regional Police offers a highly competitive compensation package; applicants will be considered for the top end of the range ($78,828.00 – $90,090.00) based on experience. The salary is complemented with a comprehensive benefit program, including employer-paid Health/Dental and Life Insurance after a six (6) month waiting period; and the OMERS Pension Plan effective upon hire. This position allows for the flexibility of hybrid remote working arrangements.
