Form of workReporting to the Manager, Exploration - Commercial, the Commercial Analyst is a member of the Commercial team within Teck's Exploration and Geoscience group. The role supports Exploration transactional and commercial activity, business processes, financial and opportunity analysis, and market research.
This role closely cooperates with the Exploration Commercial and Management teams on initiatives including exploration investments, project acquisitions, divestitures, commodity/business research, and asset valuations. We are specifically seeking a self-starter who can prioritize multiple concurrent projects and work efficiently in a highly multifaceted environment with agility. The successful individual must possess outstanding analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills. Responsibilities
- Be a Courageous Safety Leader, adhere to and sponsor health, safety, community and environment policies, procedures, and systems, including emergency response plans and hazard and risk assessments
- Lead on market research initiatives, including monitoring of external opportunities and market trends
- Support capital market analysis, including valuation multiples and capital structures for publicly traded junior, operating and royalty companies
- Support on exploration transactions, providing commercial input on deal structures and working with internal stakeholders to incorporate legal, accounting and tax considerations
- Support integrated opportunity analysis including economic assessment, financial modelling, and corporate due diligence
- Draw on expertise/resources from across the organization to complete comprehensive and detailed assessment of opportunities
- Assist on asset management initiatives, including the management of Teck's equity and royalty portfolios
- Use third party databases (S&P, Bloomberg) to gather asset information and market/transaction comparables
- Prepare presentation and information packages to assist senior management in decision making
- Undertake legacy legal agreement review and summarize key material aspects of agreements
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in a Business or Mining related field
- Professional designation related to finance (or pursuit thereof) and/or a related Master's degree
- 5 years of relevant work experience or in a role with a transferrable skills
- Prior direct experience, knowledge of and professional network in the mining and exploration industry is an asset
- Outstanding digital literacy and proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite®, particularly Excel
- Ability to develop and interpret financial models with a strong understanding of business drivers and relevant outputs required to enable decision making
- Detailed understanding of analytical methods and concepts in finance with the ability to apply economic, accounting, financial and investment principles
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work with personnel at all levels of seniority from other functional areas across both Teck and external organizations
- High degree of critical thinking, analytical, and computational skills
- Attention to detail and effective English language oral and written communication. Should be able to adapt communication style to suit different audiences
- Proficiencies in other languages, particularly Spanish, will be considered an asset

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
