About the Opportunity

Co-operators has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Commercial Insurance Advisor, Business Development based at First Insurance Agencies Ltd in the Comox Valley, BC.

In this position, your primary responsibility will be to support and develop the agency's operations, mainly through the sales and service of our specialty Commercial Insurance lines. To drive business development, you will build a book of business through rigorous prospecting, cold calling, and networking.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Driving sales and service for Commercial Insurance products, alongside other products as required
  • Engaging in active prospecting to attract new clients to the agency
  • Advising clients and recommending suitable coverages and policies based on their needs
  • Conducting front-line risk assessments and selections in adherence to underwriting guidelines
  • Performing inspections and re-inspections as necessary
  • Achieving individual targets for client service, sales, and productivity
  • Contributing to the agency's overall sales and growth objectives
  • Supporting initiatives to foster multi-service client relationships
  • Responding promptly to client inquiries, resolving complaints, and escalating issues when needed
  • Proactively reviewing clients' Commercial portfolios to ensure optimal service
  • Introducing clients to a range of services including home/auto insurance, financial planning, life insurance, and specialty services
  • Collaborating with team members to ensure a cohesive approach to client cross-referencing and service
More About You

To qualify for this role, you will have a Level 1 General Insurance license, along with a minimum of 2 years of insurance industry experience. Candidates with a Level 2 General Insurance license will be given preference.

You must also meet all provincial licensing requirements by continuing education to obtain and maintain all licenses. Depending on the position you may be required to have a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and insurance.

The following skills and experience will be strong attributes:

  • Demonstrated Commercial sales experience (asset)
  • In-depth knowledge of Property Insurance Products (asset)
  • Experience and ability to mentor junior advisors (asset)
  • Capability to build rapport quickly for productive client relationships
  • Strong in organization, time management, client service, decision-making, and problem-solving
  • Comfortable in a tech-driven environment, proficient in Microsoft Office, Policy Administration Systems and Salesforce
  • Proven competency with social media to promote yourself and the company
  • Proficient in both verbal and written communication, able to articulate information to a range of audiences
  • Demonstrated Confidentiality Assurance in handling client information
  • Works seamlessly in collaborative office or remote team environments
  • Willingness to contact clients and/or service providers in their environments
  • Commitment to professional and personal growth
  • Ability to obtain a criminal record and consumer history background check
