Job Description:
Reporting to the Winnipeg Underwriting Supervisor, the Junior Commercial Underwriter will be responsible for the day-to-day activities involved in underwriting property and casualty business with an identified portfolio of brokers through a combination of sound underwriting and customer relationship skills. This individual will be a motivated insurance professional who is business minded, results driven, and customer focused with the ability to prioritize and consistently meet deadlines.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assess, investigate, and refer risks that are not within assigned authority levels.
- Research and evaluate new submissions.
- Produce, negotiate, and underwrite renewal business using our philosophies and guidelines.
- Deliver exceptional service to our brokers while ensuring quality underwriting standards are met.
- Meet and exceed individual and team targets on renewal business, while maintaining profitability.
- Order and review risk control inspections and follow up on recommendations.
- Maintain a good working knowledge of forms, wordings, and company products.
- Work closely with Management to develop and maintain positive business relationships and profitability.
- Assist Intermediate and Senior Underwriters with their book of business.
- Willingness to take on assigned projects.
- Commit towards learning and implementing new ideas, method, and technologies.
- Complete loss reports and post-claim underwriting reviews
Job Qualifications:
- 1 to 3 years Commercial Property/Casualty underwriting experience or University degree an asset.
- Strong analytical, assessment, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Able to work as a part of a team and independently.
- Effectively deal with pressure, while maintain a positive outlook and recover quickly from setbacks.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Good sales and negotiation skills, self-motivated, and comfortable doing presentations.
- Familiar with Windows and Microsoft 360 software.
- Bilingual in French an asset.
- Completion of or working towards a CIP or FCIP designation an asset.
