Responsibilities:
● Work closely with the foreman and crew in various concrete construction tasks, including lay-out, excavation, base prep, placing, finishing, and curing of concrete.
● Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
● Assist in the preparation of job sites, including setting up and taking down wall and flat-work forms.
● Assemble, erect, and dismantle scaffolding, rigging, and hoisting equipment.
● Operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in carpentry duties.
● Support the Foreman in maintaining the job schedule and coordinating work on job sites.
● Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment, conducting daily inspections, lubricating, and cleaning.
● Work in accordance with local health and safety laws, regulations, and proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage.
● Comply with all company policies and regulations.
● Communicate and coordinate with team members, submitting daily paperwork reporting time and job costs.
Key Skills:
● In-depth understanding of concrete placement and finishing techniques with minimal supervision.
● Knowledge of formwork, granular base, and steel reinforcement materials required for proper concrete placement.
● Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
● Physically fit, capable of walking, standing, and performing strenuous tasks for extended periods.
● Competent in operating various equipment and tools safely and responsibly.
● Strong time management skills.
● Proficient in English (spoken, written, and reading).
Qualifications:
● High school diploma required; additional college/apprenticeship/vocational or technical training is an asset.
● Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
● Minimum 2+ years of experience in the construction/concrete industry.
● Required safety tickets: CSTS. Additional safety training/certifications related to First Aid and TDG are advantageous.
● Heavy equipment/concrete-specific equipment operation experience is considered an asset.
