Scotia Investments Limited is seeking a Controller to join our high-performing team. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Shared Services, the Controller will be part of the finance team and an integral part of the services provided to the Scotia Family of Companies. With a focus on two of their operating companies, the Controller will be actively involved in strategic planning and oversight, including the annual budget process, 3-year strategic plans, and 5-year capital asset plans.
The Controller will be responsible for leadership of the finance departments, ownership of the General Ledger, maintaining and improving processes, preparation/review of financial statements and internal/external reporting. The Controller will ensure the provision of accurate information for Senior Leadership decision-making through analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and preparation of financial reports. This position will play an integral role in the financial shared service functions for our growing organization(s).
Responsibilities will include:
- Development and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results
- Overseeing and managing accounting and administrative personnel and their functions
- Establishing monthly and annual budgets with capital requirements in conjunction with the leadership team
- Providing timely and accurate analysis of financial statements, budgets, financial trends, and forecasts
- Leading and directing the development of short and long-term strategic financial objectives and in-depth financial analysis
- Participating in leadership functions for your team such as employee selection, performance management, and employee development
- Establishing, maintaining, and enforcing corporate accounting and operational policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Presenting the financial results to CEO and CFO monthly
- Liaising with external audit team and preparing financial statements
- Tracking and reporting on key performance indicators, and producing an assortment of operational reports on a monthly and quarterly basis
- Researching funding opportunities and completion of applications, claims, and reporting as required
- Other duties as required to support the ever-growing Scotia Investments Family of Companies
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Current CPA designation
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a progressive management role leading a small team
- Advanced and proven abilities in Excel and other Microsoft software
- Experience in Sage300 or other like-sized ERP systems will be considered an asset
- Experience in a manufacturing environment will be considered an asset
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced analytical skills, coupled with excellent organizational skills
