Management/Business Skills Required:
- Knowledge of General Motors' Standard Accounting Policies
- Knowledge of applicable federal, provincial and local regulations and laws pertaining to the automotive industry
- Ability to administer payroll (automatic or manual)
- Ability to administer purchase orders (automatic or manual) and fixed assets
- Ability to establish and maintain key filing systems, including financial records and team member folders
- Ability to conduct basic financial analyses
- Leadership skills, including delegation, empowerment, coaching, supervision, and organizing and planning, and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution (both interdepartmental and intradepartmental)

Position Summary
The Office Manager/Controller:
- Provides analytical, administrative, and financial information to department managers and the Dealer.
- Completes dealership accounting and bookkeeping activities.
- Reconciles accounts at the end of the month.
- Knows proper accounting methods and instructs his or her team members in those methods.
- Participates in discussions with department managers to assist them in achieving their respective department objectives.
- Maintains the most up-to-date profit-and-loss information available within the dealership.
As he or she gains experience, the Office Manager/Controller:
- Initiates discussions with department managers to provide them with advice and support that will help them to achieve their respective departmental objectives.
- Works with other managers in planning, forecasting trends, reviewing, and revising plans on an ongoing basis, and initiates such discussions as necessary.
- Oversees dealership accounting and bookkeeping activities.
- Promotes the development of his or her team.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of dealership sales, profits, and expenses.
- Conducts long-term planning of retail activities.
- Participates in team meetings or initiates team meetings where there is discussion about decisions affecting all departments

The Office Manager/Controller:
- Is capable of conveying necessary information (in writing and verbally) to other managers in the dealership and to the Dealer when requested.
- Must be capable of working independently, effectively managing his or her time and work flow.
As he or she gains experience, the Office Manager/Controller:
- Is a leader in many ways, is decisive, and is capable of conveying necessary information to other managers in the dealership and to the Dealer personally.
- Is willing and able to keep communication lines open with managers and team members and willingly considers different viewpoints and recommendations as part of decision making.
- Has a senior position in a dealership.
- Perceives the strategic direction of the dealership and the impact financial and operational decisions will have on the business strategy.
What the Work is Like?
The work of the Office Manager/Controller:
- Is highly analytical, with much time spent planning, analyzing, and synthesizing financial data.
- Requires the completion of numerous routine reports for the dealership, including the Warranty Claims Register, daily Operating Report, and monthly Cash Flow Statement.
As he or she gains experience, the work of the Office Manager/Controller:
- Involves interacting consistently with managers and team members in the dealership to exchange and coordinate the flow of paperwork and information.
- May include recruiting, hiring, and developing team members if he or she also serves as Personnel Manager for the dealership.

Salary: $70,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
