Position Title: Core Cutter (Contract)

Reporting to the Senior Geological Technician, the Core Cutter will be responsible for various tasks that support the work of the exploration team at the company’s properties in northwestern British Columbia. Responsibilities may include lifting and moving core boxes, operating a core cutting saw, and bagging and shipping core samples. The ideal candidate will be someone who has practical field experience with precious metals exploration and diamond drilling programs.

This position is seasonal in nature and the duration of the contract may be up to 5 months depending on workload and drill program needs. The position is scheduled to start in June 2024.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Adhere to company health and safety policies and protocols on core cutting and related tasks
  • Lift and move core boxes and bags up to 50 lb.
  • Operate a core cutting saw to accurately sample drill core
  • Comply with QA/QC sampling procedures (insertion of duplicates, blanks and standards)
  • Bring any quality control issues immediately to the attention of the Senior Geological Technician and be proactive by offering potential solutions
  • Maintain a clean workspace
  • Regularly inspect and maintain core cutting equipment
  • Accurately pack samples in rice bags for shipment
  • Actively seek opportunities to recognize health and safety hazards, resolve safety issues, and work to mitigate associated risks in the workplace
  • All other duties as required

Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • Previous core cutting experience, or practical field experience with exploration and core processing techniques would be an asset
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Worksafe BC Level 1 First Aid certification (or equivalent)
  • The candidate should demonstrate self-motivation, strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills together with an ability to facilitate commitment to a cooperative team effort
  • Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written and the ability to work with all levels of the organization
  • Adaptable to an ever changing high-demand work environment, with the ability to work in a challenging physical environment (may be dusty and wet), including lifting and moving core boxes/sample bags
  • Ability to work a rotation schedule and live onsite in a remote camp environment for extended periods of time

Work Location and Conditions

This is a site-based camp job near the Eskay Creek Mine site in Northwestern BC. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 22 days on/13 days off rotation including travel.

The Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities in the region. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace Airport, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and wet conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
