Currently, our Governance Oversight and Learning division has a Corporate Radiation Safety Officer (Corporate RSO) available in its Safety and Preparedness department.
Safety and Preparedness is accountable for ensuring that Bruce Power meets the requirements defined in Nuclear Substance and Radioactive Device regulations as well as requirements pertinent to Class II facilities and equipment.
The Corporate Radiation Safety Officer (Corporate RSO) is responsible to ensure compliance with CNSC requirements of Class II licence and NSRD regulations. This requires management of radiation producing devices and radioactive sources as well as the oversight of their use. The Corporate RSO is the Single Point of Contact for providing comment, interpreting and implementing any new regulations from the regulator. The Corporate RSO is the subject matter expert and final authority on use of radiological materials and has oversight of radiological activities at the centre of site.
This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.
What will you be responsible for?
  • Ensures Bruce Power compliance with CNSC regulations specific to Class II devices and Nuclear Substances and Radiation Producing Devices (NSRD) including radiography
  • Solves radiation problems arising from class II or Nuclear Substances/ Radiation producing Devices including radiography
  • Maintains an inventory of regulated material and devices that fall under the class II licence or NSRD requirements
  • Formulates new or revises Bruce Power governance for Class II, NSRD and radiography
  • Performs oversight of class II, NSRD and radiography activities
  • Acts as Single Point of Contact with CNSC for reporting, inspections, and correspondence related to Class II devices, NSRD and radiography
  • Participates in the development of training courses and other training material supporting Class II Licence, NSRD & radiography requirements
  • Prepares routine reports on radiological conditions related to Class II Licence, NSRD and radiography, and assists in the preparation of reports for the regulator
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Ability to navigate regulatory requirements (i.e., reading through documents) and understand what they state, and how to apply them
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills:
  • Ability to communicate with the regulator and the people they are supporting on site
  • Ability to influence workers and leaders outside of line of management to ensure regulatory requirement compliance
  • Ability to perform complex calculations
  • Computer skills (Excel, Access and internal database) for inputting of data and running reports
  • Knowledge of radioactive sources (sealed storage), how to inventory, manage and storage of radioactive sources (sealed sources)
  • Familiarization with radioactive devices such as X-ray generating equipment
Education and Experience
  • This knowledge is normally considered to be gained through completion of a four (4) year University Degree in Health Physics or equivalent
  • Over 6 years, up to and including 8 years' is considered necessary to gain this experience
