Our vibrant and busy children's art studio is looking to hire for our spring and summer break camps! This position has the opportunity to be shared with the Creative Assistant, to provide more hours if desired. This position also has the opportunity to begin earlier if interested, and to continue on outside of spring and summer camps, with weekend and/or evening hours helping with birthday parties, workshops, after school program and subbing if interested. Hours for our part time day camps are 10am-2/3pm Monday-Thursday, with additional hours and days available if interested. As a bonus, there is an opportunity to bring your own school aged child with you to work at no additional cost!
The Creative Assistant shares many of the same skills as the Program Lead, including working independently with a group of school aged children, and fostering a positive, child-led environment that promotes independence and free thinking, as well as key problem solving skills and an approachable, outgoing personality. This position would be suitable for someone who has had a minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a group child care setting, but is looking to gain more experience with a larger group, while being supported by other staff and manager.
Skills that make an excellent candidate include:
-strong interpersonal and problem solving skills
-a deep belief in out of the box thinking for both adults and children
-strong behaviour guidance skills that focus on proactivity rather than reactivity
-a confident, laid back, hands off approach, that encourages independent exploration of environment, including understanding and core belief in the value of "risky play"
-a strong belief in child-led process rather than product based learning outcomes
-a love of creativity and of course of children!
Qualifications:
- minimum 1-2 years experience working with school aged children, preferably in a camp, daycare or educational group setting
- Some knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices
- Ability to effectively communicate and engage with children of various ages
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
As an Art Camp Leader, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children while providing them with a fun and enriching experience. Join our team today and help create lasting memories for our creative campers!
