What can I expect to do in this role?
Responsibilities include:• Providing legal advice with respect to matters related to Ministry legislation in the areas of insurance, credit unions, capital markets and other financial services and in the tax area
• Providing legal advice and assistance with provincial guarantees, loans, borrowing and investment as well as government finance generally
• Negotiating and drafting contracts, guarantees, loan agreements and debt securities
• Drafting orders in council, regulations and legislation as necessary;
• Providing written and oral legal opinions to the Ministry on other matters related to the Ministry's mandate and interpretation of Ministry legislation
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
• Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of OntarioKnowledge and Skills
• Knowledge and experience in the interpretation and application of legislation administered by the Ministry of Finance• Demonstrated experience in negotiating and drafting contracts, guarantees, debt securities and loan agreements
• Experience in drafting orders in council, regulations and legislation
• Relevant legal research experience
• Demonstrated oral and written communications skills, including interpersonal communication skills.
• Proven analytical ability and sound judgement in dealing with complex issues.
