Job Status: Permanent Position
Affiliation: Inside Unit
Hours of Work: 70 hours bi-weekly
Shift Work Required: No
Range of Pay: Group 7 - $26.43 to $30.93 per hour

The start date will follow the selection process.

This position is eligible to work remotely on a part-time basis.

Characteristic Duties: Under the supervision of the Business Development Officer and the day-to-day direction of the Curator.

1. Assist the Curator with organizing and digitizing existing permanent collection paper documentation (e.g., filing, data entry).
2. Digitize permanent collection documents and photographs (e.g., scanning).
3. Assist the Curator with inventory and the cataloging of the permanent collection.
4. Assist the Curator with cleaning and reorganizing permanent collection storage areas.
5. Assist the Curator with transfers of permanent collection objects from one storage area to another.
6. Answer enquiries from the general public regarding City of Greater Sudbury (CGS) museums and their hours of operation, upcoming events, facility rentals, and the location of various historical resources (e.g., CGS museums, libraries and archives).
7. Assist the Curator with the installation of exhibitions.
8. Assist the Curator with CGS museum tours and programs.
9. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS’ Safety Manual and the applicable provincial legislation listed therein.
10. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • University degree or college diploma in a related discipline (e.g., History (any era), Anthropology, Sociology, Indigenous Studies, Modern Languages; applicants of any other justifiably related field will also be considered) from a recognized and accredited university or college.
  • No experience is required.
  • Any related experience (e.g., working at local museums, working with historical objects, conducting historical research, etc.) is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work with computer software and administrative systems in a Windows environment (e.g., file maintenance, word processing, presentation software, spreadsheet applications, information input, and retrieval, etc.).
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand and meet the needs of patrons.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • French verbal skills highly desirable; written skills an asset.
  • Verbal and written knowledge of other languages (Italian, Finnish, German, Polish, Ukrainian, Ojibwe, etc.) is an asset.
  • Geographical knowledge of the City of Greater Sudbury is an asset.
  • Historical knowledge of the City of Greater Sudbury is an asset.
  • Satisfactory health, attendance, and former employment history.
  • Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver’s license, have an acceptable driving record, and personal insurance coverage.

This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.

Development opportunity range of pay: $25.64 to $30.15 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced range until the minimum qualifications have been met.
