Custodian/Janitor- School

HFCRD is currently seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Head School Custodian to join our team. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of our facilities. This is an important role in ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for our students, employees and visitors.

The Head Custodian is responsible for all facets of custodial services required to keep the building and school grounds in an acceptable manner. The Head Custodian is responsible to the School Principal and will work closely with the Division Level Manager for advice, assistance, and recommendations in the performance of his/her duties. The Head Custodian is responsible in ensuring that the school building and grounds are safe in accordance with the safety standards established by the Province of Alberta.

• Maintain cleanliness and appearance of the interior and exterior of the school.
• Perform small maintenance and duties as required in the daily maintenance and appearance of the school and school grounds.
• Seasonal cleaning and maintenance in accordance with the annual schedule.
• Plan for and supervise custodial assistants in the performance of their duties.
• Other duties relative to custodial work are outlined in the specific duties assigned by the Supervisor. Experience in custodial work would be an asset.
• Ability to lift 30 lbs.
• Maintain a polite and positive attitude, confidentiality, and good communication.
• Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision.

Responsibilities will include
- Clean and sanitize designated areas, including restrooms, offices, common areas, and other facilities
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and/or scrub floors
- Empty trash receptacles and replace liners
- Dust and wipe down surfaces, furniture, and fixtures
- Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces
- Restock & ordering supplies in restrooms and other areas as needed
- Perform minor repairs or maintenance tasks as required
- Follow established cleaning procedures and safety guidelines
- Adhere to proper handling and disposal of cleaning chemicals

Qualifications:
- Previous experience in commercial cleaning or facilities maintenance is preferred
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment operation
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor tasks such as lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods of time
- Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively
- Ability to follow instructions and work well within a team environment
