Job description

Eaton’s Electrical sector is currently hiring a Custom Order Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Edmonton, AB facility and offers benefits from Day 1.

What you’ll do:

Reporting to the Engineering manager, this position is responsible to:

  • Perform customer Order Engineering and leads multiple concurrent projects which include new, custom, and customized low and medium voltage power distribution products.
  • Provide timely and accurate drawings, materials information, and production engineering support for the manufacturing of assigned projects in accordance with the customer specifications, industry standards and Eaton standards.
  • Provide product support to Marketing, Sales, EatonCare Customer Service, and Eaton’s Electrical Services & Systems (EESS) teams.

In this function you will:

  • Manages customer order projects, with moderate level of guidance and direction.
  • Reviews incoming orders for scope, application, configuration accuracy and compliance to customer specifications.
  • Prepares accurate electrical/mechanical input engineering documents and instructions for preparation of approval, confirmation, construction, manufacturing, and as-built drawings. Efficiently creates own ACAD drawings as required. Creates accurate electrical component bills of material to fulfill order requirements.
  • Controls all changes through the change management process. Initiates PCNs and RFIs, as required.
  • Conducts interim and final product inspections.
  • Leads customer inspection and witness test.
  • Assists the warranty administrator and the engineering field service representative in resolving customer field challenges and issues.
  • Provides feedback to Product Manager on new customer needs and applications.
  • Supports and participates in the implementation of corporate initiatives and attainment of department and operations goals.
  • Meets safety, quality, schedule, and financial objectives. Identifies and participates in cost improvements.
  • Manages customer order projects, with moderate level of guidance and direction. Work is reviewed at critical points.
  • Coordinates and facilitates the commercial aspects of orders, including meeting with EatonCare and/or customer to approve/revise drawings and customer inspections.
  • Maintains level 4 competency on assigned products and performs second level drawing quality reviews.
  • Leads special project initiatives to support product and process improvements within the department and submit monthly reports to immediate supervisor.
  • Serves as the technical expert on specific product and champions standardization on how to incorporate the product utilization in control and wiring schematics.
  • Creates and/or validates mechanical (various views of assemblies, layouts, coordination) drawings.


Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • 2 year diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or 4 year University degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Physics Engineering.
  • 3 - 5 years of engineering experience in the manufacturing of electrical power distribution assemblies and customer relations.
  • Experience with a design software like AutoCAD or 3D modelling software.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship now or in the future.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Working knowledge and experience interpreting applicable industry standards (CSA, IEEE/ANSI, NEMA) for 7.2KV motor control, 0.6KV through 38KV metal-enclosed and metal-clad switchgear and Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Registered as a professional member with APEGA (or other Canadian provincial engineering association) OR Certified Engineering Technologist registered with ASET (or other Canadian technologist association).
  • ERP experience in Oracle Manufacturing.
  • Understanding; application of protective relaying.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in a manufacturing environment.

Position Criteria:

  • Self-motivated, energetic and capable of working in a very fast pace environment as part of a team and taking direction.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written. French is an asset.
  • Demonstrates advanced use of digital tools to solve problems.
  • Competency in using MS-Office and AutoCAD.
  • Effectively demonstrates applied electrical and mechanical engineering concepts.
