Job description

QCL is a Luxury Fishing Resort set in a protected harbor at the northern end of Haida Gwaii. We pride ourselves in the comfort, friendliness, and platinum standard services we provide, and are interested in crew that share this paradigm. Our summer season begins late May, running until mid-September.

All crew are provided with pre/post season return travel from Vancouver to Haida Gwaii, meals, a staff lounge and gym facility, shared accommodations, quality uniforms and the opportunity to fish throughout the season.

DECKHAND

Members of our Deckhand team are responsible for carrying out all work in a safe and effective manner while greeting guests, maintaining the order and cleanliness of the boat, and many other tasks as instructed by the Captain. Candidates are energetic, customer-minded and able to be at sea for extended periods while working in a range of weather conditions on board.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Assist guests and others on the ship
  • Load and unload materials
  • Perform housekeeping duties: painting, transferring rigging, vessel maintenance
  • Perform all the duties, rain or shine, under any weather condition
  • Physically fit to lift and move any heavy material or objects
  • Be able to live, eat, and work on the ship
  • In case of emergencies, assist in Emergency plans
  • Help with docking: deckhands are responsible for securing the tug as it berths and unberths from docks and other vessels
  • Ensure the safety of everyone on board the Ship
  • Examines the ship’s cables that they are nice a snug according to safety guidelines

Role Requirements:

  • Relocating to QCL (Spring-Fall) position based in Haida Gwaii
  • Domestic Vessel Safety Certification (DVS-V-026)
  • Pleasure Craft Operators Certificate (PCOC)
  • Strong communication and proven teamwork skills
  • Self-starter, analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Previous ship experience considered an asset
  • Solid written & interpersonal skills allowing one to work effectively in a diverse and dynamic setting
  • Desire to learn and provide a first-class guest experience
  • Passion for the west coast and interest in the adventures that come along with working/living in a remote lodge environment
  • Ability to live onboard ship along with twelve guests and four crew members
  • Starting wage subject to qualifications and Transport Canada Certifications

Wage may vary depending on experience and qualifications
