Job description

Are you a certified Small Vessel Operator with a strong affinity for nature and aquatic environments? Adecco is currently recruiting for a full-time Deckhand to join our prestigious client, a distinguished member of the Assembly of First Nations, located in Gold River, BC.
In this permanent position, you will take on the crucial responsibility of overseeing the operation of the water taxi service. Your duties will include communicating essential information to the crew, maintaining the overall condition of the vessel, including equipment upkeep, and assisting with watch-keeping duties.

  • Pay rate: $19.50 - $22.50/hour, depending on qualifications and education, negotiable.

  • Location: Gold River, BC

  • Shifts: Day

  • Job type: Full-time | Permanent

  • Relocation assistance is provided, if not presently a resident of Gold River, BC

  • First three months of accommodation are provided

Duties and Responsibilities:        

  • Unload all cargo and luggage as needed

  • Assist in vessel watchkeeping duties during operation

  • Ensure all machinery is ready for use including greasing and cleaning

  • Perform other general maintenance duties like painting, sweeping, mopping

  • Ensure the vessel is adequately fueled at all times

  • Assist during emergencies and ensure working knowledge of safety equipment

  • Ensure the vessel is prepared for service daily, including maintaining cleanliness for passengers

  • Maintain accurate and up to date vessel logs and documentation

  • Comply with all Transport Canada’s guidelines including those related to passenger safety, and licensing requirements.

Requirements and Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma

  • SVOP, (Small Vessel Operator Proficiency) MED3, ROC-MC

  • Other certifications considered an asset

  • Minimum three years of working knowledge of small water vessels.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

  • Strong proficiency with ropes, knot tying and navigation skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills

  • Knowledge of maritime safety and Transport Canada guidelines

  • Willingness to participate in education and certification requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs unassisted.

  • Valid driver's license

  • Clear criminal records check

  • Legally eligible to work and reside in Canada.
