Vessel Operation Mechanical Technician (Deckhand/engine attendant)

Gripship Canada Crew Inc. has an immediate job opening in its British Columbia team of marine services personnel. We require an experienced Vessel Operation Mechanical Technician (Deckhand/engine attendant) with demonstrated mechanical and engine maintenance skills.

Your essential role will include vessel maintenance and mechanical servicing activities, as required, as well as operation and management of specialized onboard aquaculture equipment related to fish health management and environmental improvement.

As part of an agile crew you will also supply general deckhand services. Previous marine experience or related industry training, ideally salmon aquaculture experience or training, will be an asset if it supplements your mechanical skills.

Our position is located in British Columbia and the vessel works around Vancouver Island. This position reports directly to the Ship Captain.

Ideal Candidate Characteristics and Qualifications

The ideal candidate has mechanical aptitude and experience. You will have problem-solving capabilities and demonstrated effectiveness at working safely and independently in a small team environment. You are dependable with a strong work ethic and positive attitude. You are physically fit, enjoy being outside, are willing to work in all types of weather conditions, and are, of course, comfortable being on the water. The ideal candidate will also have:

• Marine industry experience or training, aquaculture experience or training, or other related work experience.
• Workplace safety training courses.
• Essential marine related training such as MED, First Aid, Pleasure Craft Operators Certificate (PCOC), or Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP).
