Delivery Truck Driver or Delivery Helper

Smith’s Furniture & Appliances is seeking a Delivery Driver to join our team and play a key role in our customer experience by ensuring each purchase ends in a smile!

Our successful applicant must be able to safely handle and load a single axle, regular brake box Delivery Truck and have basic computer and smartphone skills along with the ability to communicate with our customers in a courteous and professional manner.

In this physical job, you must be able to safely team lift and carry heavy furniture and appliances into our customer’s homes, and from our supplier’s warehouses using wheeled hand carts.

This is a full-time permanent position, working a schedule with variable hours depending on demand that could extend into the evening and will include working on Saturdays.

Qualifications:

· Valid driver’s license (Class 5 only. No special endorsements required.)(Driver Only)

· Clean driver’s abstract (Driver Only)

· Clean Criminal Record Screening Certificate

· Previous experience operating a 5-ton Delivery Truck (26ft box)(Driver Only)

· Ability to lift and carry heavy weights on a regular basis, as well as occasional kneeling

· Heavy lifting training and experience is an asset

· Previous furniture delivery or Warehouse experience is considered an asset

· Excellent communication and organizational skills

· Basic computer and smartphone skills

· Familiar with the use of ratchet straps

· Experience using a hand truck wheeled cart is considered an asset

· Flexibility to work shifts that may extend into the evenings and Saturday is required

Key Responsibilities:

· Loading and unloading furniture and appliance safely and efficiently, with the highest level of care and concern for your safety and our customer’s property while ensuring that all loads are properly secured and protected for transportation.

· Maintaining and a clean Delivery Truck and having it ready for the next job at all times.

· Conducting daily pre-trip inspections of delivery vehicle

· Verifying the accuracy of shipment and inspecting product for damages, loss or defects.

· Communicates with the Delivery Manager, Warehouse Manager, or Salesperson in a timely fashion regarding any customer issues, damages or accidents.

· Perform other reasonable delivery related, freight and/or packaging disposal tasks as required and assigned by the Business Manager or Delivery Manager.

Salary for Driver: $18.50 per hour, $19.00 after probation

Salary for Helper: $17.00 per hour, $17.50 after probation
