Department Sales Associate
A Department Sales Associate is committed to achieving merchandising excellence within the department while ensuring customers are greeted and helped. They understand the products in their department and are able to make merchandising adjustments on their own in keeping with the overall merchandising strategy and product alignment.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring customers within the department are greeting in a timely and friendly manner
- Advising customers on product location and details. Helping customers understand application, and the difference between comparable products
- Using Home Info to get information and placing special orders for customers
- Assisting with the training of new department merchandising associates as well as continual product knowledge training on products within the department
- Proficient with regular POS transactions such as creating a sale, return, special order etc.
- Assist at sales desk as required (Customer service, answering phones, covering breaks etc)
- Daily merchandising maintenance - Facing, dusting, price changes, adding/removal of flyer tags, managing overstock.
- Merchandising analytics - understanding how to use the POS system to merchandise and is charged with making adjustments to orderpoints based on sales history
- Restocking shelves from warehouse trucks (or direct vendors) primarily within the department, but not exclusively
- Maintain and work with the merchandising manager to design and build end caps/side panels designated to your department
- Remerchandising sections within the department when category management dictates with the help of the merchandising Manager, or department head
- Review weekly flyers and sales campaigns to merchandise your department appropriately
- Assembling products such as BBQs, patio furniture, shelving units for displays, etc.
- Helping other departments with larger projects such as seasonal changeover and resetting planograms
- Assisting the merchandising manager with projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of home improvement products
- Spatial creativity - Ability to construct an aesthetically pleasing display
- Retail-minded - Able to work closely with customers in a positive manner
- Ability to move heavy item such as 50 pound boxes of nails, and 5 gallon pales of paint
- Flexibility with scheduling and willing to work weekends
