Position Summary

The Deputy Market Clerk is designated by the City and acts as a liaison with market vendors to ensure the Market Square By-Law is enforced and followed.
Kingston's Market Square is a community resource which reflects the heritage of Kingston and serves as a source of civic pride for present and future generations. The Kingston Public Market is one of Canada's great historical markets and meeting places.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend market on days of operation
Ensure adherence to the Market Square By-law (By-Law 206-118)
Allocate daily rented spaces and settle disputes
Maintain records of cash receipts, attendance, comments and complaints
Assist with special functions
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Competencies

Completion of High School (Grade 12) diploma or equivalent
Three (3) months experience in cash handling and front-line customer service
Experience and knowledge of agriculture and municipal by-laws considered an asset

Skills, Abilities, Work Demands

Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong people and conflict resolution skills
Must be physically fit to be able to walk and stand up for 3 – 5 hours at a time
Seasonal position from April 1 to October 31
Hours of operation are Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and statutory holidays throughout the season 6:00am to 9:30am
Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (CPIC)
