Job Title: Digital Strategist, Marketing and Communications

Compensation Range: $5,622.33 - $8,081.00 CAD Monthly

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

The Marketing and Communications Department (MarCom) at the UBC Sauder School of Business leads initiatives to build the brand and reputation of the school, both in domestic and global markets, and develops Marketing and communication strategies to promote business objectives, including recruitment, student experience, fundraising and alumni and community engagement. Key areas of responsibilities include brand stewardship, school and unit level marketing campaigns, corporate communications and media relations.

The Digital Strategist plays a key role in optimizing the recruitment and acquisition marketing initiatives and capabilities within MarCom. Reporting to the Associate Director, Digital Experience, the Strategist works collaboratively with Marketing and Communications team members and business unit partners throughout UBC Sauder to elevate and maintain the long-term strategic value of the school’s digital channels.

Organizational Status
Reports to the Associate Director, Digital Experience. Collaborates and works closely with colleagues across the Marketing and Communications team and business unit partners within UBC Sauder. Provides support and guidance to team members regarding acquisition marketing strategies within social, search, email and display, campaign analytics and reporting dashboards, and best practice digital solutions. Works closely with relevant central UBC teams to aid UBC Sauder colleagues with the interpretation of legislation and policies related to our digital channels.

Work Performed

Digital Strategy

  • Continuously evaluates and implements improvements to digital channel strategy under the guidance and direction of the Associate Director, Digital Experience.
  • Researches and informs UBC Sauder’s approach to current and upcoming legislation, policy, trends and issues within the global digital marketing landscape.
  • Works in partnership with agency and business unit team members to analyze and leverage end user data to better optimize and target UBC Sauder’s marketing initiatives.
  • Suggests, designs and implements digital channel projects to increase recruitment and acquisition marketing ROI.

Marketing Analytics and Research

  • Reports on marketing KPIs such as applicant leads, conversion rates, website traffic and social media engagement.
  • Tracks email campaign metrics (delivery, open, click-through rates).
  • Monitors budget distribution and performance of internally managed paid ad campaigns.
  • Conducts competitive research and analyzes benchmarking data.
  • Recommends website and campaign optimizations.
  • Monitors and reports on digital performance metrics through standard dashboards and/or ad-hoc reports.

Project Management

  • Develops and implements digital channel projects aimed at improving and enhancing UBC Sauder’s marketing capabilities and ensuring the school is compliant with new and existing government legislation and university policy.
  • Provides end-to-end project management for relevant digital projects from scoping to delivery and debrief.
  • Collaborates with internal teams to design, develop and implement relevant digital projects

Campaign Management

  • Develops and manages internal paid digital media and social media campaigns for recruitment and acquisition.
  • Manages always-on search engine marketing campaigns in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications leadership team and partner agencies.
  • Identifies target audiences and understands their behavior and habits in alignment with business unit and agency partners.
  • Continuously optimizes internally managed ad campaigns to ensure they are performing in a manner that provides the greatest ROI.
  • Allocates budgets and monitor costs in collaboration with Marketing and Communications team members and business unit partners.
  • Evaluates the success of media strategies and campaigns.

Email Marketing

  • Manages, enhances and informs overall email marketing strategy and platform(s) of choice within UBC Sauder.
  • Collaborates with internal teams as a subject matter expert on email design, development and strategy.
  • Manages and distributes all branded email templates and supports business partners with training and best practice recommendations.
  • Supports the development of and execution of lean generation strategies and campaigns in collaboration with Marketing and Communications colleagues and their business partners.
  • Develops documentation and road maps for processes, A/B tests, and effective promotions through email and SMS channels.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders and agency partners to optimize campaigns.
  • Keeps abreast of email marketing trends and shares updated best practices on a regular basis.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Decision-making is based on a thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures of the Marketing and Communications unit. The incumbent exercises initiative and judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion, and must demonstrate professionalism, tact and discretion. The position has dealings with staff, faculty, and students within the school, as well as the business community and external suppliers. Error in the performance of duties or in the exercise of discretion may result in significant damage to the school's reputation.

Supervision Received
Reports to and works under the direction of the Associate Director, Digital Experience.

Supervision Given

May be required to support the supervision of co-op students and/or part-time student helpers.

Minimum Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of four years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own
- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in digital marketing.
- Understanding of digital marketing tactics and best practices, website optimization, user experience principles, paid digital and social media marketing, email marketing, mobile marketing.
- Knowledge of Google Analytics and Google Marketing Platform, MS Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop and/or InDesign.
- Working knowledge of email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, Campaigner, Marketing Cloud and/or Pardot.
- Familiarity or ability to learn content management system; HTML experience is an asset
- Previous experience creating email, social and web assets is required.

- Must have project management experience. Ability to manage projects with multiple stakeholders and business objectives.
- Previous agency experience in a similar role is an asset.
- Must be detail-oriented.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
