Divert NS is currently seeking a Director of Programs and Development to join their dynamic team. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this role plays a crucial part in managing and promoting awareness surrounding initiatives that enhance Divert NS’ pillars of innovation, stewardship, and catalyst for change.

About the Position

As the Director of Programs and Development, this position is responsible to spearhead strategic partnerships with stakeholders to position Divert NS as an innovator in waste resource management. The Director will manage waste reduction education and awareness initiatives to promote the goals of the Nova Scotia Solid Waste-Resource Management Strategy and Divert NS’ Programs and mandates. The successful candidate will lead the development of value-added manufacturing in the Province of Nova Scotia and oversee funds that assist in the establishment of new businesses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with various stakeholder groups such as academia, business, and government, to raise awareness of business development funding programs that encourage innovation in the waste-resource management industry of Nova Scotia. Programs include Value-Added Manufacturing Fund, Research and Development Fund, Student Research Fund, and Enviro-Depot Infrastructure Loans.
  • Drive education to advance our province’s recycling culture and seek new initiatives for advancing innovation in Nova Scotia’s waste diversion industry.
  • Work with municipal stakeholders to raise awareness of Programs that support waste diversion.
  • Collaborate with Nova Scotia Environment and Climate Change to develop, implement, and expand industry stewardship and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs.
  • Monitor industry trends and technologies that could impact Divert NS’ current business model or efforts to develop local markets for waste-resources.
  • Report outcomes of Programs and partnerships to the CEO and Board of Divert NS.
  • Work with the communications team to position Divert NS as a leader in environmental education and innovation funding.
  • Collaborate with stakeholder groups to identify issues in the waste-resource sector that require additional research or discussion.
  • Work with the senior management team to implement budgets and strategic plans, evaluate business proposals, and manage contracts.
  • Represent the organization at public events and lead assigned initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Relevant university degree with five years’ program/business development and program management experience.
  • Strong leadership skills and a proven ability to manage a team of employees working on diverse projects.
  • Knowledge of educational programs that drive behavioural change and experience in developing and managing educational initiatives for awareness and compliance.
  • Familiarity with industry stewardship initiatives, including EPR.
  • Strong financial management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of waste diversion Programs and regulations in Nova Scotia, including source reduction, reuse, recycling and composting programs.
  • Excellent organizational skills for managing multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and business end-user programs.
