The Director of Recreation and Volunteer Services, is a member of the Nithview Community Leadership team, reporting to the Executive Director and is accountable for the management of the recreation programs department including wellness, spiritual, volunteer, physiotherapy, and restorative care. The Director of Recreation and Volunteer Services plans, organizes, and implements meaningful programs for the residents based on quality management, legislative requirements, and organization standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, organize and implement meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Executive Director;
- Leads and manages a team of Recreation Assistants, Pastoral and Volunteers. This includes hiring, training and onboarding of all staff and Volunteers, ensuring compliance with requirements under the Fixing Long Term Care Home Act (FLTCHA) and regulations.
- Build monthly activity calendars to match resident needs with a variety of activities regularly;
- Develop annual plans aligned with the organizational growth plans and budgets, ensuring that budget and financial targets are strictly adhered to
- Maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
- Works with the Executive Director/Administrator in budget development and maintains the approved budget. Facilitates department budgets by ensuring sufficient resources/equipment are available through budget preparation, maintenance, and the managing appropriate and adequate staffing levels.
- Builds relationships with exceptional communication and human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
- Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly;
- Collaborates and supports the Nithview leadership team, assisting other departments as required;
- Manages, orientates, directs, co-ordinates, implements, and evaluates the facility Volunteer Program and actively promotes the recruitment of new volunteers and ensures legislative regulations and standards are met
- Ensures orientation of volunteers meets requirements as identified in FLTCHA and RHA.
- Works with Executive Director on Volunteer appreciation and annual volunteer training
- Work with all departments to identify opportunities to engage volunteers in meeting needs of residents
- Demonstrate strong management skills to be a “role model” and resource to staff and the entire organization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from a community college or university, or equivalent is required
- Strong management and leadership skills with ability to hire, train, coach, mentor and engage a team;
- An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly;
- Knowledge of resident-centered approach to programs and techniques in recreation, leisure and restoration;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
- Competency in Point Click Care and experience in Care Planning MDS/RAI as well as program developmen an asset
- Knowledge of community resources and enthusiastic about building, supporting and engaging in the local community
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS) and 2 Step TB skin Test or Chest Xray.
- Current Standard and/or Emergency First Aid and CPR Certification;
Food Handlers Certificate required.
