JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a business-minded, results-oriented and experienced leader to join its Supply Chain team in the role of Director, Supply Chain Quality. Reporting to the Vice President, Supply Chain, the Director plays a critical role in developing and executing Supply Chain and sourcing strategies by leading people, driving business change and transformation, modernizing and digitizing category management and procurement processes and developing and executing a quality program for the business to drive efficiencies. This role is also responsible for providing reporting to our vendors and holding them accountable within OPG's existing supplier programs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Demonstrate expertise in supply strategy development, category quality management, strategic sourcing, change management and implementation;
  • Demonstrate expertise in understanding economic trends and commodity market outlook to reflect in category strategy and risk management;
  • Partner with the business to identify and execute objectives and needs as a trusted Supply Chain business leader. Ensure timely delivery with best cost, service and quality;
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction while developing and evaluating Supply Chain, purchasing processes and category management procedures, projects, policies and initiatives;
  • Provide strategic direction to business transformation, modernizing and digitizing category management and Supply Chain processes;
  • Develop category quality strategies and manage key drivers of category spending, including establishing contracts, cost reductions, supplier development, diversification, consolidation, and working capital improvements;
  • Be accountable for building the vision and strategy for fiscal value and monetary controls to manage the complexity and risks of what OPG procures. This involves engagement with multiple stakeholders and management of significant budgets that have impacts on business performance;
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of Cost Modeling and implement cost models across the categories;
  • Lead and apply change management practices in building and transforming a Supply Chain organization in a fast-paced, highly complex and technical industry;
  • Understand and analyze market, demand, and supplier trends. Identify opportunities to develop strategic initiatives to improve costs and supplier performance;
  • Develop and hold other leaders accountable for the right supplier mix to position OPG for growth and success;
  • Lead annual planning for category key performance indicators (KPI), targets and metrics. Conduct frequent business and performance reviews with suppliers to improve KPI performance;
  • Build and foster strategic supplier relationships utilizing supplier segmentation and spend analytics;
  • Continue to develop a Supply Chain organization that's fully aligned with OPGs vision and commitments, ensuring it achieves its strategic goals, revenues, profitability targets and objectives; and
  • Develop and maintain strong connections and networks in Supply Chain and the energy industry while staying current on trends and best practices.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Materials Management, Engineering, Law, Finance;
  • Supply Chain Management Professional Certificate (SCMP) completed or working towards;
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification or Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset; and
  • Master of Supply Chain Management (MSCM) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) is an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum ten years of progressive management experience in Supply Chain, category management, procurement, purchasing in leading categories, strategic sourcing, commercial contract or vendor management;
  • Proven success in building and leading Supply Chain operations, purchasing with an emphasis on category management strategy development and execution in a complex organization with over a billion+ spend;
  • Minimum five years of leadership experience with a similar management scope (approximately 10+ staff, multiple sites);
  • Demonstrated ability to lead effectively, influence and motivate a team of business and Supply Chain professionals. Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams;
  • Strong sense of urgency and excellent business judgement. Proven ability to make decisions under pressure that have significant impacts on budgets and performance of projects and business operations;
  • People-oriented with strong interpersonal skills, adept at building and maintaining positive, productive and collaborative working relationships. Strong ability to establish confidence, credibility and cooperation with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to senior and executive management;
  • Experience and exposure negotiating large scale multi-million dollar commercial contracts;
  • Strong business and financial acumen; extensive knowledge and understanding of business financials, budgets, legal concepts, commercial contracts, agreements and terms and conditions, competitive bidding laws of Canada, and Contract Law;
  • Requires critical thinking, strong analytical skills and experience in creating and interpreting strategic vision and implementing into operational models;
  • Ability to conduct benchmarking to address cost, quality, risk and innovation considerations that provide thought leadership and actively shape strategy;
  • Experience delivering transformational change, including modernization and digitization of category management and robust process improvement practices;
  • Strong program and project expertise including PMO, working knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) practices alongside diverse procurement expertise;
  • Results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and effectively manage multiple deliverables simultaneously;
  • Demonstrated track record of identifying root causes to issues and proactively problem-solving. A strong drive and a high level of energy, commitment and enthusiasm to take on complex and challenging situations in a dynamic organization;
  • A drive to achieve the best value for money, meeting business objectives in a high profile, strategic, rapidly evolving and competitive environment while improving the customer experience and upholding OPG's behaviours and values; and
  • In-depth understanding of project delivery models and types of contracts such as Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) models and contracts on large-scale and complex infrastructure projects.
