We have a 5* Google rating from our clients and our business is based on pet care that exceeds the industry standards. We are a small kennel with a maximum of 55 dogs and 25 cats in our care.
Job description
Escape to the Country Dog & Cat Kennels is looking for a Kennel Attendant to join our team! We are hiring for a part-time/casual position. This includes Saturdays and Holidays with the opportunity to work a few days during the week (more hours over holidays/summer, or anytime that kids are out of school!).
Successful applicants will be notified within a week of applying if they are selected for an interview. These will be conducted, in person.
We are located 12 mins West of Okotoks, AB and 6 mins East of Black Diamond, AB. Preferred location for applicates is within a 30 min drive.
You must be dependable, a highly motivated individual, coachable, have a positive attitude and be a team player. You will also need to be able to work alone without supervision, be responsible and have top notch customer service skills.
We have a mature staff and must be 18+ and be able to drive (have own vehicle). The morning shift can be from 7:00am-1:30pm and the evening shift is usually 3:30pm-8:30pm. During peak times, these hours may be a bit longer at times.
A knowledge of basic Dog and Cat handling skills are required. Those that have Pet First Aid certification or any formal training with animals will be given priority over other applicants.
This is not just about petting/playing with dogs and Cats; it is hard work with a lot of cleaning, responsibility and looking after the needs of the animals in our care!
Must be comfortable with up to 20 dogs around you at one time. You have an assertive, but not aggressive personality. This job is not for a timid person. Dog fights may occasionally break out and you must be confident enough to try to stop it.
Job Duties include but not limited to:
Dependability to show up and work your scheduled shift!
Receiving animals from customers when they are dropped off for their stay at the kennel
Returning animals to customers when they are picked up from their stay at the kennel
Take animals to their kennel with their belongings (some heavy lifting is required up to 50lbs)
Supervise dog playtimes & sometimes doing this on your own
Cleaning duties of the kennels
Changing water/feed bowls/running the dishwasher
Feeding Animals
Cleaning up Dog & Cat messes of vomit & diarrhea (not often, but occasionally it happens in the kennel)
Changing Cat litter boxes and cleaning kennels
Playing with and giving attention to both the cats and dogs in our care
Picking up dog feces/maintaining yard cleanliness
Dealing with animal laundry, and operating the washing machine
Folding dog blankets, beds and Cat mats. Returning to the designated places
Loading/unloading pet food deliveries (lifting up to 50lb bags)
Willingness and ability to work in all weather conditions
Willingness and ability to work weekends and holidays (rotational)
Excellent communication skills
Keep in contact with staff for direction on kennel procedures and any arising issues
