Electric Bike & Scooter Tour Guide

The Elgin County Railway Museum is recruiting an individual for the part-time position of Electric Bike and Scooter Tour Guide. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for leading and facilitating immersive bicycle & Scooter Tours that showcase the vibrant murals in and around downtown St. Thomas, ON. This role requires a passion for art, an understanding of the local mural scene and railway history, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to providing an engaging and enjoyable experience for tour participants.

Responsibilities:

· Lead bicycle and Scooter Tours, providing insightful commentary on the history and significance of each mural.

· Ensure the safety of participants by managing the group during rides and adhering to traffic regulations.

· Foster an interactive and engaging atmosphere, encouraging questions and discussions among participants and creating a positive and inclusive environment;

· Develop a deep understanding of the artists and stories behind the murals, conveying this information in an interesting and accessible manner.

· Provide exceptional customer service, addressing any concerns or questions that may arise during the tour.

· Manage the distribution and collection of necessary equipment, such as bikes, scooters, helmets, and safety gear.

· Generate social media content consistently to promote the tours, and manage the accounts on platforms including Instagram, Facebook and Tik Tok.

Qualifications & Expectations:

· Passion for art, particularly murals and other forms of street art

· Strong public speaking and communication skills

· Knowledge of local history, culture, and the ability to connect it to the art on the tour

· Experience in leading or guiding group activities, preferably in a tour setting

· Basic bike maintenance skills and a good understanding of road safety

· Ability to handle unexpected situations and adapt the tour as needed

· Secondary and post-secondary students are welcome to apply!

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to ride a bicycle or scooter for extended periods

· Capacity to handle a group of cyclists in various weather conditions
