Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey’s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Surface Fixed Plant Maintenance team consists of Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation Journeypersons and Apprentice trades, Engineers, and Planners. The department is responsible for providing both preventative and corrective maintenance across the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site in the areas of the Concentrator, Paste Plant, and Paste Plant Booster Station. The Surface Fixed Plant Maintenance team maintains a variety of equipment including but not limited to crushers, conveyors, SAG/Ball Mills, various styles of pumps, 4160V/600V power distribution equipment, Larox Filters, disc filters, vacuum pumps, paste pumps, pneumatically actuated valves, etc.

The Opportunity

Vale recognizes the Impacts and Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation and the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu and Inuit workers have first preference for employment at the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site. This is guided by an adjacency principle that first gives preference to those who live on the coast of Labrador, followed by those residing in the rest of Labrador, those residing on the island of the province, followed by the rest of Canada.

Next, priority will be given to Newfoundland and Labrador residents. We also welcome those who are willing to relocate back home and those looking to make NL their permanent home.

We are currently seeking an Electrical Supervisor to join our Surface Fixed Plant Maintenancedepartment in Voisey’s Bay, NL. This is a permanent position.

This position is based at the Voisey’s Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This position is on a two week on, two week off rotation.

The Electrical Surface Fixed Plant Maintenance Supervisor will be expected to perform the duties of a front-line supervisor directing the day-to-day safe work of the maintenance personnel. The Electrical Surface Fixed Plant Maintenance Supervisor will be a conduit between operations, planning, work execution, and create a work environment that motivates tradespeople to achieve world class performance.

Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Ensure planned work is safely and effectively executed thin the schedule.
  • Work closely with Operations personnel to execute the right work at the right time.
  • Execute work in support of the Safety Health Environment Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislated standards, company policies and practices.
  • Foster a climate of safe production, mutual trust, and respect among all members of their team.
  • Execute area annual plans and mitigates impact of upsets.
  • Control the consumptions of materials and supplies for the crew, including temporary employees and contractors.
  • Work within budget, guidelines, and standards in place as well as participate in refresh of these standards.
  • Manage area zone maintenance in conjunction with operations to establish priorities and timelines.
  • Ability to hold team members respectfully accountable for their performance regarding safety, housekeeping, work standards, and professionalism.
  • Coordinate work activity.
  • Lead the crew to create an interactive workplace environment aligned with a WCW.
  • Focus on achieving the daily and weekly work plans and contribute to the development of monthly and quarterly plans.
  • Identify and manage an occupational training plan to meet the needs of the area.
  • Provide effective care, maintenance, and utilization of assets.
  • Supervise, plan, and coordinate the maintenance work components.
  • Ensure all work orders are closed with completion codes and comments for future analysis.
  • Work collaterally and cross functionally, with colleagues, engineering, production, and services to achieve work objectives.

About You

Education:

  • College diploma in an Electrical trade.
    • An Interprovincial Red Seal in an Electrical trade is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ journeyperson experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Previous mining experience is required, with concentrator/milling experience being an asset.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment would be an asset.
  • Experience with SAP.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of cost and budget processes.
  • Capable of carrying out standard procedures.
  • Knowledge of a professional discipline or related process and people issues.
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Practical knowledge of Workplace Safety & Health Act.
  • Computer skills (MS Office Software, etc.).
  • Communication Skills (Oral, Written, Demonstrative).
  • Ability to effectively supervise, prioritize and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ownership of HSE risk reduction program.
