Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Employee Experience Specialist will serve as the organizational lead on employee engagement and culture, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) for CICan. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring Employee Experience initiatives to ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming workplace for all. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with our management team, employees, and other stakeholders to promote and integrate EDI, employee engagement and recognition into all aspects of our organization.

The Employee Experience Specialist will work to help keep CICan as an employer of choice by implementing meaningful employee engagement approaches; promoting the CICan culture, value, and brand; and by creating an exceptional and inclusive Employee Experience. Under the guidance of the Human Resources Manager, this role will be responsible for helping to develop and maintain programs, policies, and practices focused on retention, culture, recognition, engagement, and training.

General Requirements

  • Leads the development and reflection on human resources policies, staffing processes and practices as they relate to EDI, culture, and employee engagement;

  • Creates proactive approaches to well-being in the organization to drive physical and mental well-being
  • Leads CICan culture-building;
  • Participates in the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Specific Expectations

Employee Engagement & Culture

  • Develop retention and engagement strategies to support positive CICan culture
  • Support orientation and onboarding of new employees through the development and enhancement of tools and resources to facilitate the implementation of processes and procedures to improve the new hire experience and employee journey
  • Lead employee recognition for CICan
  • Conduct stay/exit interviews
  • Implement evidence-based approach to employee engagement via surveys etc, and use data to assess engagement, enhance processes, and develop action plans
  • Implement organization-wide approach to professional development and assist management in conducting, tracking, and or evaluating training options
  • Organize virtual and in-person training and events to promote employee engagement and help employees feel connected
  • Track employee turnover rates and other data to support positive Employee Experience and organizational culture

HR Policies and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives especially as it relates to onboarding, retention, policies, processes, training, and engagement
  • Monitor and revise CICan policies to improve alignment, content, and to create new policies and procedures in response to any changes in legislation or organizational priorities.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations related to diversity and inclusion initiatives and present them to senior management as needed.
  • Collaborate with all divisions/committees to promote diversity and inclusion throughout the organization, ensuring it is embedded across CICan.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience
  • Graduate from a post-secondary institution in Human Resources Management or equivalent training and several years of experience in human resources.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressive Human Resources experience, preferably with experience in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
  • Fluency in English and French.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Employment Standards Act (ESA).
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with managers and employees at various levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work with tact and discretion with a high level of confidential information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and initiative - the ability to work effectively with moderate direction.
  • Excellent project management skills, and the ability to execute initiatives and ideas with speed, accuracy, and efficiency
  • Effective critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, resilience and decision-making skills.
  • Passionate about EDI and committed to creating an inclusive workplace culture.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment and engage with a diverse audience.
  • Demonstrated ability using Microsoft Office Suite at the intermediate level.

Desirable Requirements
  • CHRP designation
  • Experience with an HRIS system
