Job description

Position Summary:

Coordinate and administer the Disability Management files for non-occupational and occupational illness and injury. Coordinate return to work/accommodation processes for all members, with focus on early and safe return to work. Provide support to the Employee Wellness, Employee Assistance and Peer Support Programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer Short term disability (STD) claims. Work in partnership with third party Disability Management provider to ensure members complete all necessary medical paperwork, determine eligibility for STD benefits in accordance with policies, keep member’s supervisors informed of return to work or possible accommodations.
  • Administer all WSIB documentation, offer modified duties, ensure compliance with WSIB policies, review WSIB decisions, coordinate with third-party Disability Management provider for assistance with claims management and prepare appeal cases as required and represent through the appeal process, as necessary.
  • Complete long-term disability (LTD) applications and provide necessary paperwork to members for completion. Work with the insurance provider to manage LTD claims and develop early and safe return to work strategies and plans.
  • Coordinate the return to work/accommodation process for all members with the review of restrictions and limitations to determine a suitable accommodation for both occupational and non-occupational requests, coordinate with third-party Disability Management provider for assistance and recommendations.
  • Track and administer employee sick time to ensure members are in compliance with sick time procedures and policies.
  • Provide guidance to members regarding medical leave of absences and other government approved job protected absences. Review family accommodation requests and provide recommendations.
  • Provide health & safety guidance and recommendations. Ensure JHSC members are adequately certified and receive updated training, as required.
  • Schedule and review results for fit for duty evaluations and Safeguard Program.
  • Coordinate the development of physical demands analysis (PDA) for positions within the Service, as required. Provide ergonomic assessments and recommendations to members.
  • Coordinate and support the Police Service Employee Wellness, Peer Support and Employee Assistance Programs with a focus to improve employee health and well-being. Including: educating and engaging employees in healthy lifestyle choices by establishing programs, activities, lunch & learn classes, and goal setting to decrease healthcare costs and improve the health status of employees.
  • Keep abreast of changes to legislation, trends, and best practices in order to recommend changes to Police Service programs as required.
  • Develop partnerships with external agencies and organizations committed to employee health and wellness.
  • Collect and maintain statistical data.
  • Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of information and adhere to Service security policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma education in areas such as Occupational Health Safety and Wellness, Workplace Wellness and Health Promotion, or Human Resources Management.
  • Certified HR Professional designation is an asset.
  • 2-3 years’ related experience in attendance management; return to work; Disability Management; coordinating wellness and employee assistance programs.
  • Working knowledge of the following legislation regulations and/or requirements:
  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
  • Employment Standards Act (ESA)
  • Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Ontario Human Rights Code
  • Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and other applicable legislation
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures and use reason and judgment to develop conclusions and/or solutions to problems.
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Good communication, conflict resolution, and teamwork skills,
  • Good problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and HRIS software.

HOURS OF WORK:

  • 40 hours per week

Starting Salary: $73,625
