The Opportunity
The Legislative and Court Services Department is comprised of three branches; Legislative Services (which includes Council Secretariat, Corporate Mail and Print Services, Vital Statistics and Access and Privacy Services), Court Services (which is responsible for the administration of justice within two court service areas in compliance with the Provincial Offences Act, the Memorandum of Understanding and Inter-municipal Service Agreements) and Enforcement Services which is responsible for administering and enforcing several municipal by-laws including but not limited to regulations related to the parking of vehicles, pet controls, property maintenance, business licensing, and sign placement).
Reporting to the Supervisor of Enforcement Services, the successful applicant will assist in various administrative functions that relate to the city’s By-laws, including but not limited to Parking Control, Property Standards, Business Licensing, Sign Enforcement and Parks Regulations. They will assist with all facets of Customer Service such as responding to inquiries in person and by written correspondence and provide counter service to the customer. The applicant will also assist with the creation of files under the TOMRMS system, matching and filing parking infractions and dispatching enforcement staff to various complaints.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
Currently enrolled in or is a student in Secondary School, College, or University*
- Minimum of 16 years of age or turning 16 by the end of the calendar year and must have attended one of the academic establishments listed above the year in which they are applying for employment and/or returning the following year
Experience
- Demonstrated experience in a customer service and/or administrative role within an office work environment.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high standard of public relations at all times
- Demonstrated ability to perform in a manner which is consistent with corporate goals, vision, mission, and values
- Intermediate written and verbal communication, time management, and problem solving skills
- Basic computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word)

- Please note that this is a requirement of the position for any new employees to the City of Barrie in accordance with the Police Record Check Procedure. Existing employees will be grandparented from this requirement.
Other Important Information
Work Term: May to August 2024
Wage:$17.75 to $22.98
Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
