The Ministry of Transportation & Economic Corridors is hiring an Engineering, Design and Drafting Technologist to act as the Ministry’s lead in establishing and maintaining the engineering drafting guidelines for Highway and Bridge Projects.

Role Responsibilities


The Engineering, Design and Drafting Technologist will be the lead in the preparation and maintenance of standard drawings, figures, and exhibits in the Highway Geometric Design Guide, Roadside Design Guide, Highway Pavement Marking Guide, Design Bulletins, Ministerial Orders, and the CB6 Highway Standard Plates along with plans required for Ministerial Orders.



You will prepare drawings and coordinate publishing on the government's website for use by department staff and Consultants working on Transportation projects, as well as provide drawings for FOIP requests.



Safety is a top priority to Transportation and Economic Corridor’s and it is essential to have clear communication by the department in designing, constructing, and maintaining the provincial highway network



Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain Engineering Drafting Guidelines for Highway and Bridge Projects, consulting with internal and external stakeholders
  • Create and revise standard drawings, figures, and exhibits to be included in department manuals such as the Highway Geometric Design Guide, Roadside Design Guide, Highway Pavement Marking Guide, Design Bulletins, and the CB6 Highway Standard Plates, Pavement Marking Guide, sign templates, and Ministerial Orders.
  • Prepare drawings for Ministerial Orders to support speed limit amendments on provincial roadways
  • Update the TIMS database signing templates as changes are required, including completing draft signs and verifying the with the engineers and the Transportation Association of Canada’s guidelines

Qualifications


Required:

  • Two-year Engineering Technologist diploma PLUS six years related experience or equivalent experience (as outlined below) in highway Design and principles.


Equivalency:

  • Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
    • 1 year of education for 1 year or
    • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education


You must also have:

  • Demonstrated intermediate to advanced experience working with Micro Station *Please note an on-site/ in-person assessment to determine Micro Station knowledge and ability may be required
  • Strong understanding of road Design and principles
  • Ability to read, understand and draft engineering documents


Assets:

  • Alberta highway system and the Alberta Survey system knowledge
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Understanding of the Alberta survey system

Location: Twin Atria, 4999-98 Avenue NW Edmonton - Hybrid
