NewRange Copper Nickel is searching for highly motivated and committed individuals for our seasonal/temporary paid Engineering Internship position. Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, this position will provide exposure to a variety of field and office projects. You will experience a broad range of learning opportunities through a variety of tasks that include hands-on experience in field operations and professional office environments. Overview:
Located in the historic iron range mining region of northeastern Minnesota, NewRange is a 50:50 joint venture of subsidiaries of Teck and Glencore that is advancing two major copper-nickel-platinum-palladium deposits, NorthMet and Mesaba. Project activities range from readying the feasibility stage NorthMet project for a production decision pending clearance of mine permits to advancing the nearby Mesaba project to pre-feasibility studies and permitting. NewRange is committed to unlocking a new domestic supply chain of critical metals for the transition to a low-carbon economy and positioning Minnesota as a world leader in sustainable mineral resource development.

Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values on Health, Safety, Environment, and Communities shared by Teck and Glencore (the Partners).
- Perform a variety of geotechnical assessments, including:
- Rock storage facility and tailings dam safety inspections;
- Stability analyses for pit slopes, natural slopes, and tailings dam slopes;
- Water balance analyses;
- Mass balance analyses;
- Survey data collection and implementation; and
- Assist in various aspects of geotechnical design work.
- Assist with geotechnical drilling observation.
- Conduct mapping and sampling activities in all weather conditions.
- Assist the senior geotechnical engineer with geotechnical design work.
- Support Geotechnical monitoring and analysis including interpretation of ground movement and piezometric data, drilling data centralization, instrumentation maintenance, and document tracking, control, and critical geotechnical risk management.
- Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be working towards an Undergraduate degree in Geological or Geotechnical Engineering on a full-time basis.
- Must be Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate level.
- Must be a motivated, self-starter, with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
- Must be comfortable working in a dynamic work environment with a willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain.
- Acceptable driving record with a valid driver’s license.
- Requires strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels and partners.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
