The LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada)/ESL Instructor will be responsible for the delivery of remote/in person lessons; providing instruction directly to students in class. The LINC/ESL instructor for classes held 2 evenings a week (Currently Monday and Wednesdays) from 6:00– 8:30 pm . This class runs September to June.
Responsibilities:
Ø Design, implement, and instruct English as a Second Language classes, both online and in-person, in a LINC program using the CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks).
Ø Prepare, administer and evaluate student progress using PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment).
Ø Develop and implement a daily lesson plan appropriate to learner levels based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks.
Ø Develop a range of course materials adhering to LINC Curriculum Guidelines in a needs-based program.
Ø Provide digital learning opportunities using an LMS platform, language learning software, virtual conferencing, and Google/MS office applications as required.
Ø Maintain attendance records and other documentation as required.
Skill requirements:
Ø Certified by TESL Ontario or TESL Certificate from an accredited institution recognized by TESL Ontario is an asset.
Ø Experience teaching English as a Second Language to adult newcomers.
Ø In-depth understanding of and experience using the Canadian Language Benchmarks (completion of the CCLB CLB Bootcamp course or equivalent training is an asset).
Ø Experience providing instruction using learning technologies including SMART Board, Chromebook, Google Classroom, and virtual conferencing tools.
Ø Ability to adapt teaching methodology to the needs/skill levels of individual learners.
Ø Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
Ø Experience working in a multicultural environment.
Ø Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of adult immigrants and refugees.
Ø Ability to work independently with excellent organizational and time management skills.
