is seeking an

Environment and Forestry Student to Join the Team!

Position Summary:

The Environment and Forestry Student is involved in assisting with the maintenance and management of the County forests, including tree planting, invasive species control, species identification and trail maintenance. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to conduct research, and a desire to grow their knowledge and understanding of agroforestry, resource management, and species identification in the field.

Role and Responsibilities:

The Environment and Forestry Student is responsible for assisting the County Forester with maintenance, management, and programs related to the 14 County forests. This position will be helping the forester conduct an update to the forest inventory and will also be responsible for assisting with research and report writing related to natural resource management activities.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Enrolled in a post-secondary Forestry, Arboriculture, Resource Management, Environmental Science, or a related program;

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience operating a variety of equipment, light duty vehicles, power and hand tools (i.e., chainsaws, weed/brush trimmers, pruning equipment) considered an asset;
  • Research, Problem-Solving, Policy development, Report writing, Microsoft Office
  • Species identification experience preferred;
  • Forestry pesticide license and chainsaw certification would be preferred.

Additional Notes:

  • Candidate must be able to work outdoors in various site conditions/inclement weather and have access to reliable transportation to carry out assigned duties.
  • This candidate will mainly be working in the field with some opportunities for office/remote work.

Wage:

  • College/University level – $16.86/hour as per 2023 grid
  • Masters level – $21.28/hour as per 2023 grid
