CENTRAL NL

JOB DESCRIPTION:

HR Project Partners is currently accepting resumes for an Environmental Technician on behalf of our client, Calibre, Valentine Gold Mine.

Reporting to the Senior Environmental Coordinator, the Environmental Technician role will support construction related environmental and regulatory compliance activities such as environmental management and follow-up plans, regulatory permitting applications and supporting documentation, and completion of sampling, monitoring, and field studies.

This position will be located at the Project site, working on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct and document various environmental sampling including air, soil, surface water, groundwater, and effluents.
  • Ensure samples are collected, handled, stored, packaged, and shipped using standard methods and procedures that preserve sample quality, integrity, and chain of custody.
  • Maintain and calibrate field equipment.
  • Conduct and document other environmental monitoring as required to support project activities and commitments (i.e. caribou migration).
  • Conduct environmental audits and inspections and report non-compliances to the Environmental Coordinators to bring to the attention of the responsible department or contractor.
  • Assist with the implementation of the various Environment Management Plans (including the Environmental Protection Plan (EPP), Environmental Response Plans, Environmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and other guidance documents as part of the overall Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS).
  • Promote environmental awareness and standards relating to environmental programs to employees and contractors to minimize risks of negative impacts to the environment.
  • Assist with internal environmental incident report logging, investigation, and identification and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Participate in all Health Safety and Environment (HSE) programs and support the safety and environment culture through involvement in daily toolbox talks, weekly HSE meetings, monthly safety meetings and other initiatives.
  • Support the Environmental Coordinators with collection and preparation of data for reports to regulatory authorities within specified deadlines.
  • Provide field support to consultants and contractors as required for various monitoring programs (i.e. avifauna, bats, fish).
  • Track and support compliance with environmental and regulatory obligations including permits, applicable regulations, conditions of authorization, and internal and external commitments.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline including Environmental Science or
  • Engineering or professional degree/diploma in a relevant Environmental discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Environmental experience.
  • Experience in a remote construction or operational setting on a rotational basis is preferred.
  • Pleasure Craft Operators Certificate is required, or willing to obtain.
  • Experience working on and around water is a requirement.

  • Models a health, safety and environmental protection culture and follows company procedures and directions.
  • Good understanding of environmental field sampling and data collection techniques, sample handling procedures, and chain of custody.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel) and other data-management software.
