Equipment Operators, Public Works
(Seasonal)
Lamont County is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Seasonal Equipment Operator in the Public Works Department. The Equipment Operator reports directly to the Operations Foreman and performs operating duties related to road maintenance for the 2024 season.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Safe and efficient operation of heavy and light equipment (excavator, loader, backhoe, gravel truck, and other equipment as required).
· Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment.
· Assist with flood control and repair.
· Perform manual labour as required.
· Compliance with the Lamont County health and safety program.
· Accurate recording and submission of weekly timesheets.
· Other maintenance related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
· Extensive experience in the operation of a heavy and light equipment.
· High School Diploma or GED.
· Holds a Class 3 Alberta Driver’s license with Air Brake Endorsement (Q).
· Able to lift approximately 50 lbs, sit for prolonged periods, climb in and out of equipment.
· Able to work in all types of weather (rain, cold or hot) and dusty conditions.
· Able to load gravel trucks safely and efficiently within allowable weights.
· Able to load trucks safely from uneven stockpile sites.
· Able to produce finish grade within reasonable tolerances.
· Able to conduct daily equipment inspections and basis daily maintenance of equipment.
· Willing and able to perform labour tasks as assigned.
· Willing to work 10-hour days, overtime may be required from time-to-time.
· Safety conscious and attentive to the working environment they are in.
· Excellent communication and experience dealing with the public is required.
· Able to work independently and unsupervised.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
· A satisfactory and valid Driver’s Abstract.
· A satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
· A negative drug screen.
This position is based on a nine-hour workday, Monday through Friday, starting at 7:00 a.m. Lamont County offers a competitive wage based on experience and qualifications.
