We are actively seeking an experienced and driven Estimator looking to grow their career and join our Estimating team.
Position Summary:
The role of the Estimator is to develop and assist in the creation of cost estimates, proposals, studies and tender documents for mining projects while supporting business development activities when required.
Responsibilities:
The Estimator is a key member of the Estimating team and is expected to assist in managing the Company's estimating functions. Specific objectives are:
- Manage the development of mining, tunnelling, or underground construction estimations
- Provide guidance on services, procedures, and methods in support of estimates, proposals, or studies
- Review tender documents, drawings and specifications to determine scope of work
- Review and analyze current job actual costing versus bid, and create benchmarks for future work
- Coordinate and collaborate with internal resources to support estimates including business development, operations, equipment, finance, and other departments
- Prepare request for quotations for suppliers and subcontractors
- Develop estimates using first principle estimating techniques from prequalification stage through to execution
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, bid strategy, presentations and infrequent site visits as requested
- Review design options and recommend best solutions based on cost, engineering quality, or availability
- Assist with document preparation, and technical writing for proposals and studies
- Participate and provide input to the bid review process
- Participate in project hand-over meetings when transferring newly awarded work to the execution team
- Participate in requested business development support activities such as tradeshows or client meetings
- Minimum 3 - 7 years of relevant experience with some of it spent in the field in the areas of: mining production and development, tunnelling, or underground construction
- Engineering degree, technical degree or equivalent experience in the mining estimating field
- Mine engineering or technical certificate would be an asset
- Registered, or eligible to register as Professional Engineer in Canada is an asset
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Must be able to work accurately under pressure
- In depth knowledge of excel, and willingness to learn new estimating software as required
- Basic skills in communication and technical writing and a willingness to build on these skills
- Previous experience with Autocad and Deswik would be an asset
- Previous knowledge of mine ventilation, mine dewatering and services, mine power, ground support, mine planning, and other mining disciplines would be an asset
- Experience with cost estimating processes and procedures would be an asset
- Ability to travel when required
