Executive Director - Human Resources

Richmond School District operates 37 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate and choice programs, continuing education, and a robust international education program. The district enrolls approximately 21,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3000 dedicated staff.

Richmond School District is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative, professional, and accomplished leader for the position of Executive Director of Human Resources, effective September 1, 2024 . Reporting to the Superintendent, and as a member of the District Executive Leadership team, the Executive Director has responsibility for all elements of human resource services including recruitment, selection, staffing, succession planning, leadership development, employee wellness initiatives, the development of human resource policies and procedures, records maintenance, health and safety, and employee relations.

The Executive Director is also responsible for leading labour relations activities including direct local collective bargaining. In addition to collaborating and consulting with a broad range of internal and external partner groups, the Executive Director liaises with BC Public School Employers’ Association regarding provincial bargaining and other human resource issues and works directly with a dynamic departmental leadership team.

The ideal Candidate brings:

• Significant current experience in public sector Human Resources, preferably in a K-12 educational setting.

• Strong, positive experiences managing labour relations issues, including contract management, collective bargaining, and workplace investigations.

• A record of building and maintaining excellent professional relationships with the Board of Education, both union and exempt employees at all levels of the organization, as well as fostering effective relationships with external contacts.

• A commitment to transparent communication and inclusive decision-making.

• Open, strength-based leadership focused on empowering others.

• Experience implementing legislative requirements that impact a complex working environment.

• An ability to develop and implement innovative approaches to complex problems.

• The ability to work independently with the aptitude for working as part of a collegial and collaborative team.

• Expertise designing and implementing a comprehensive leadership development strategy.

Qualifications:

• Relevant academic background preferably at the master’s level.

• Substantial experience leading Human Resources and labour relations in the public sector, preferably in an educational setting.

• Strong experience leading a professional team.

• Demonstrated ability to align Human Resources goals to district strategic priorities.

• Superior verbal and written communication skills, including writing formal reports, and making presentations.
