What will you be doing?
- Work effectively to liaise with various groups, such as carriers, freight forwarders, international clients, TFS Customer Service and other departments within Teknion Corporation, as well as other Global companies and suppliers.
- Coordinate shipments between the Global group of companies and Teknion, as well as Roy & Breton, Woodwork Solutions and Teknion Studio. The Export Supervisor will act as a key player in finding the best transportation / payment collection options for the above-mentioned companies, especially on behalf of those which do not have an export dept.
- Be accountable for all export-related documentation, compliance and timely submissions.
- Monitor the container loads, as well as split TFS orders by product, to maximize container loads.
- Prepare or oversee a shipping plan for upcoming orders, for two or three weeks in advance. Orders exported to the same destination will be sized and grouped by container capacity and/or delivery mode.
- Ensure the required shipping space is booked with the client’s designated freight forwarder/carrier. Empty containers should be available for on ESD, either at the Consolidation Center or directly at various suppliers’ plants.
- Ensure that dangerous goods are handled, packed and labelled according to the safety/transportation norms in Canada and overseas
- Be accountable for examining export-related documents for completeness and accuracy, amend as necessary and submit them in a timely manner, either to banks or directly to the clients, depending on payment terms.
- Responsible for processing letters of credit, documentary collections, wire transfers, etc.
- Provide information and advise team members on export- and logistics-related issues, as well as offer recommendations, as required.
+ Use the network of Canadian Trade Offices abroad for updates regarding local import regulations, duties and taxes, etc.
- Negotiate international transport rates with carriers and freight forwarders, chassis detention and waiting time charges with trucking companies, storage fees for orders not shipped on ESD, containers demurrage and dead runs.
- Monitor third-party invoices for services rendered (prepaid freight, dead runs, storage fees, etc) and forward to A/P dept.
- Obtain certifications and legalizations from Consular authorities, foreign embassies in Toronto, Toronto Board of Trade, etc. The Export Supervisor is in charge of compliance with export documentation.
- Take a team-oriented, proactive approach to ensure that Customer Service and Int’l Sales Teams are fully informed about shipping status/options, allowing appropriate alternate actions in case of shipping disruptions.
- Train visiting dealership members in logistic-related issues.
- Responsible for the general supervision of the Export team (time management, absence reports etc.).
- Degree/certificate from Logistics / Supply Chain program at an accredited university or college.
- Export/Import designations (CITT, Plog, CIFFA) are an asset.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in an International Logistics or Export environment
- Good written and oral communication skills. A second language is considered an asset
- Ability to perform efficiently in a deadline-oriented and multi-task environment
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- Strong negotiation skills to negotiate rates with export authorities
- Working knowledge of International Export standards and practices, including Incoterms.
