Position Summary
Reporting to the Facilities manager the Housekeeping/Maintenance position is responsible for performing maintenance functions on a daily basis in the Windsor location with regular visits scheduled to the Leamington office.
This position supports the on-going operations of the Windsor- Essex County Health Unit. This position works in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all policies and procedures of the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.
Position Responsibilities
The Housekeeping/Maintenance position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the cleaning field, such as, washroom cleaning, hard and soft floor care, all types of housekeeping (clinic office areas, office areas, and waste handling and disposal including pick-up, transport, compact, and package for off-site disposal). Basic mechanical aptitude to assist/perform small repairs (tighten keyboard trays, assemble items for clinic set up and take down on/off site when needed). Housekeeping/Maintenance position, monitors meeting room schedules and handles room setup. Professionalism and courtesy are a must when working with any and all members of the organization, contractors, and clients.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
  • Directing outside contractors to various locations within the Windsor facility
  • Material handling of incoming and outgoing orders and supplies
  • Routine upkeep involving wall patching and painting
  • Minor construction projects
  • Daily floor cleaning
  • Refuse and recycling program handling
  • General building maintenance
  • Any other “heavy cleaning” as required
Position Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:
  • High School diploma required
  • Over one year experience in maintenance/housekeeping
  • General building maintenance knowledge/experience in plumbing, basic electrical operation of small
machinery/tools and floor maintenance equipment
  • Ability to correctly operate various types of industrial equipment ( ex. lawn, cleaning, floors)
  • Clear understanding of the importance of safe use and handling of cleaning chemicals
  • Ability to read, write and follow instructions and measurements in English
  • High standards of sanitation and safety
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand/walk on hard floors for prolonged period without causing undue strain.
  • Must be able to reach, bend, squat in order to clean high and low surfaces
  • Must be able to climb and balance on ladders in order to clean window, ceiling lights, vents, etc.
Other Requirements:
  • Basic understanding of current computer applications (Microsoft Office Word; Internet; Outlook)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and organize workload
  • Willingness to work some evenings and/or occasional weekend
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s Licence, access to a reliable motor vehicle during working hours, as well as 1 million dollars in liability insurance
  • A satisfactory vulnerable sector police clearance
  • Ability to meet physical demands of position
  • TB skin test and all immunization policies must be adhered to
