Job description

Facilities Maintenance Technician

Reporting to the Director of Operations (or designate), the Facilities Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the ongoing and preventative maintenance and repair of Town of High Level owned or leased facilities. Facilities include the Aquatic Centre, Sports Complex/Parks, Museum, Airport terminal buildings, Town Hall, Water Treatment Plant, Fire Hall, and Public Works shop areas. The Facilities Maintenance Technician works closely with the respective facility managers and their Directors to ensure the Town’s facilities are safe and operational. Maintenance and repair are performed directly or through the procurement of qualified contractors.

The Employee may be required on an ongoing basis to attend applicable training, workshops, seminars, and courses at the discretion of the Employer in order to facilitate job knowledge and performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

FACILITY MAINTENANCE

  • Perform regularly scheduled inspections of facilities to ensure they are in good repair and are functioning properly.
  • Work will include maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs to buildings, HVAC systems and plumbing, pumps, fixtures, or components.
  • Direct completion of smaller projects, i.e., carpentry, painting, minor renovations, etc.
  • The Facilities Maintenance Technician will not perform any work that requires a licensed tradesperson unless they are licensed in that trade. Ensure all work done is in compliance with existing building & safety codes and standards.
  • Assist with supervision, coordination, and completion of capital projects as assigned, in cooperation with contractors and engineers.
  • Perform and/or coordinate with contractors for ongoing and preventative maintenance of all Town-owned facilities and equipment.
  • Manage facility maintenance and repair-related service contracts.
  • Ensure all work awarded to contractors is in accordance with signed agreements and Town policies.
  • Oversee the operation of all municipal heating plants up to a capacity of 3,000 kW.
  • Supervise the heating plants in accordance with the recommendations set out in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VI.
  • Conduct checks of the heating plant's equipment in accordance with building codes
  • Update and maintain a logbook in accordance with the Power Engineers Regulation.
  • Ensure qualified people are present for the start-up of a heating plant.
  • Maintain certification with the Alberta Boiler Safety Association.
  • Ensure annual inspections are completed by qualified technicians in accordance with the Code.
  • Maintain accurate repair and inspection records on each of the Town of High Level facilities.
  • Implement and maintain maintenance schedules for each facility.
  • Ensure all work awarded to contractors is in accordance with Town policies and proper records are kept.
  • Assist in developing and executing short and long term preventive maintenance programs.
  • Report all accidents or incidents immediately to the Supervisor and complete Accident/Incident reports within 24 hours of such incidents.
  • Ensure all purchases (credit card or purchase order) or contractor hiring is done in accordance with Town policy.
  • Assist the Director of Operations (or designate) by advising them of costs related to maintenance supplies, contracts, and equipment rentals or purchases.
  • Assist Directors with the annual facility maintenance budget.
  • Create and maintain an inventory of tools and equipment.
  • Maintain strict confidence in all matters pertaining to the Town and its employees.
  • Maintain longevity of tools and equipment through proper operation and maintenance.
