Farm Manager

Sow Farm Manager position:

Location – Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB area

Full time – 40 hours per week

Starting salary will be based on experience

Porcherie Lac du Onze Ltee (PLDO), located in Notre Dame de Lourdes, in south-central Manitoba, is currently searching to fill the position of “Sow Farm Manager” for its LDO Sow Barn location. The LDO Sow Barn is a 2,600 sow farm. The gestation section of the farm was renovated in 2017 and converted to group housing with electronic sow feeders. PLDO also owns another 2,300 sows, including in-house multiplication, 17,000 nursery spaces, a feed mill and trucking. PLDO also oversees the production of 40,000 finisher spaces and hog transportation.

The successful candidate will have strong leadership abilities, excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure while handling multiple tasks. Weekend and holiday work are required on a rotational basis. A valid driver’s licence and a vehicle are required to get to and from work. A minimum of 4 years of experience in commercial hog production and two years of management experience is required. The ability to communicate in English is also a requirement.

The sow Farm Manager is responsible for managing and directing the daily operations of the entire sow farm site and its respective departments. The departments include breeding, gestation and farrowing. Duties include: Managing the health and welfare of all animals at the farm, monitoring and maintaining production targets, organizing staff schedules to meet workloads, maintaining a positive work environment for all employees, training new and existing employees, maintaining and enforcing all biosecurity policies, managing the repair and maintenance of farm equipment and working with the production manager to find creative solutions to improve productivity and employee experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $62,400.00-$78,000.00 per year
