Farmer's Market Assistant

Job Title: Market Assistant - Community Farmers Market (DCCM)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Market Assistant for the Downtown Chilliwack Community Market (DCCM). Because we are funded by grants, the ideal candidate will be under 30 or currently enrolled in post-secondary education. This position requires approximately 10-12 hours per week, including market day activities and planning sessions. Markets take place on Sundays from May 26 to October 20. This is a seasonal position.

Compensation:

Salary Range: $20-22 per hour, reflected on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

Every Sunday:

• Collaborate with the market manager to prepare for market day.
• Assist in attaching the trailer to the market manager’s vehicle and transporting it to the market site.
• Execute market setup, including erecting tents and arranging tables for market and community use.
• Coordinate the setup of the kids' area and sound system for music.
• Ensure proper placement of signage and flags to enhance market visibility.
• Operate Square for merchandise and market coin transactions.
• Provide exceptional customer service by offering information about the market and its offerings.
• Assist in the dismantling of market structures and loading of the trailer.
• Aid the market manager in parking and detaching the trailer.

Administrative Duties:

• Participate in virtual or in-person meetings with the board of directors.
• Collaborate with community outreach coordinator to execute market themes and events.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently, self-motivated.
• Ability to safely lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Strong grasp of the English language and ability to communicate in a kind and professional manner.
• Strong customer service skills with an approachable demeanor.
• Proficiency in cash handling and operating a till.
• Experience working with children or community groups is advantageous.
• Willingness to undergo a criminal record check.
