Summary

The Project Coordinator/Field Supervisor is responsible for a wide variety of duties in support of Sk’atsin Resources LLP (SRLLP). The Project Coordinator/Field Supervisor will coordinate, aid, and assist with all SRLLP’s projects.

The Position: As our Field Supervisor, you will play a lead road in supporting forest management activities including Forestry development, Forest Planning, Cultural Heritage Assessments, and the implementation of Silviculture programs including but not limited to site preparation/Wildfire risk reduction, planting, brushing and survey programs. You will also assist with developing and updating company policies and procedures. Your responsibilities will have a direct impact on the land base while working for a company that is continually looking to improve our practices while maximizing our economic and social benefit. You will work with First Nations and other stakeholders to adapt our operations to land values. This may include, but is not limited to:

Coordinating field projects, including:

· Project planning.

· The organization, deployment, and monitoring of field crews.

· Project kick off.

· Identifying and delivering training programs.

· Health and Safety.

· Field supervision (which may require laboring on the project).

· Project reporting.

· Project materials procurement.

· Developing and monitoring project budgets.

· Wildfire Crew Coordination

· Cultural Heritage Assessment reporting

Business development, including:

· Building and maintaining relationships with clients.

· Participating in pre-season project planning which may include meeting with clients to develop work plans for upcoming field seasons.

· Equipment and vehicle maintenance (which will include scheduling regular maintenance, monitoring vehicle inspection reports and ensuring equipment is safe and operational).

· Health & Safety

· Maintain BC Forest Safety Certification.

· Develop (and assist in the development of) Health and Safety related Policies and Procedures.

· Participate in community engagement. This may include participating in community meetings or engaging community members in Archeological Overview Assessments or other Cultural Assessments.

· Other duties as required by the COO.

Responsibilities

Focus

· Manage Sk’atsin Resources ecosystem-based forestry program, working closely with senior management.

· Undertake a broad range of operational forestry fieldwork, utilizing and coordinating forestry consultants as required, including: cutblock and road reconnaissance and layout, bridge crossing design, site planning and data collection, logging supervision, post harvest surveys, reforestation, and silviculture, etc.

· Prepare site plans, harvest plans, cutting permit and road permit applications, economic / stumpage analysis.

· Manage First Nations, public and stakeholder consultations.

· Prepare and submit FSP and Woodlot Licence Plans and Management Plans.

· Coordinate and supervise harvesting and other operations, including on-site safety supervision.

· Manage funding proposals, grant applications, develop scientific and academic partnerships.

· Work on strategic initiatives, partnership building, alternative revenue streams, etc.

· Manage other capital projects as required, including bid responses, resource planning, subcontractor management, risk analysis & mitigation, client & contract management, etc.

· Accomplish project requirements by orientating, training (if need be), assigning, scheduling, and coaching field staff.

· Kick off field projects.

· Supervise field crews (may require time in the field, may require manual labor).

· Interface with the Office Administrator to ensure all project costs are accounted for and all billable items are invoiced to the client.

· Monitor project performance, writing project summaries, and reports.

· Assist with the administration, delivery and ongoing development of the company’s Health and Safety Program.

· Follow and comply with the BC Forest Safety Council, Work Safe BC, and OHS standards, as well as complying with major proponents’ safety programs.

Reporting & Accountability

· Liaise and correspond with the COO and other Sk’atsin employees.

· Correspond with current/potential clients.

· Liaise and correspond with prime, sub, and independent contractors.

· Liaise and correspond with Neskonlith Indian Band Chief and Council and Administrative staff.

Daily Responsibility

· As an employee of Sk’atsin, present a positive and professional image of the organization to all visitors, suppliers, employees, and general public, inquiries, and other interactions.

· Ensure that all systems necessary for the functioning of the projects are running including GPS, Avanza, logbooks, and other devices required.

· Coordinate field crews, trucks, and equipment on a day-to-day basis.

· Assign tasks and set priorities.

· Supervise other project staff.

· Maintain and review field crew workers timesheets.

· Respond to telephone, e-mail, and in-person inquiries from clients, business partners, and other parties.

· Ensure equipment maintenance is up to date.

· Ensure that all assets are inventoried and maintained.

Requirements

· Registration or eligibility for registration as a Registered Forest
Technologist (RFT), Forester in Training (FIT) or Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with the Association of BC Forestry Professionals (ABCFP)

· preference will be given to candidates possessing previous silviculture and operationally related experience in forestry.

· proficient computer skills

· familiarity with current technology and forestry applications

· knowledge of current BC forest legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines

· outstanding problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational abilities

· ability to work independently and in a team environment.

· Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

· Knowledge and experience with industrial Health and Safety programs, including legislative requirements and program delivery.

· Ability to proactively take ownerships of projects and independently drive them forward

· Thrive in a constantly changing environment with the ability to multi-task and handle a range of tasks and responsibilities.

· Numeracy skills (developing cost estimates, analysis, and reporting of projects performance against budget).

· Excellent oral and digital communications skills with a demonstrated ability to produce plans, reports, and other written products.

· Able to work independently and as a part of a high performing team.

· Desire to learn and comfort with learning on the job.

· Skill in identifying and resolving problems in a timely manner (gathers and analyzes information and develops alternative solutions using a reasoned approach).

· Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

Work Conditions

· Office and field environments in all weather conditions.

· Physical ability to lift 50lbs.

· Ability to traverse challenging terrain on foot.

· Travel as necessary, mostly confined to travel to and from field locations within the workday.

· Working alone within a check in framework

· Hours over and above a standard workday may be required.

· Interacts with employees, contractors, management, and the public at large.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $25.00-$35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
