SUBSURFACE UTILITY ENGINEERING (SUE) FIELD TECHNICIAN
The SUE Field Technician is responsible for identifying and collecting subsurface utility data using various types of equipment, coordinating with subcontractors, establishing traffic control and other safe work zones, organizing and managing field data, and maintaining accurate records. The SUE Field Technician is responsible for the following tasks:
● Identifying and collecting subsurface utility data using various types of equipment and methods.
● Coordinating with subcontractors to ensure that subsurface utility data is collected in a safe and efficient manner
● Establishing traffic control and other safe work zones to protect the public and workers from the hazards associated with subsurface utility work
● Organizing and managing field data, including:
○ Entering data into a database
○ Creating maps and diagrams of subsurface utilities
● Maintaining accurate records of all subsurface utility work performed
Responsibilities:
● Review and understand utility maps in various formats and from various sources.
● Operate survey equipment to collect paint marking utility information.
● Document field work with photographs, field sheets, other forms, etc.
● Follow and work within our procedures, processes, and systems.
● Maintain accurate records (data management, timesheets, expenses, etc.).
● Be a positive team player as well as a professional ambassador when dealing with members of the public or stakeholders.
● Participate and engage in team meetings.
● Travel to other cities, work in a variety of settings/conditions; occasional night work, weekends, etc.
● Read scope of work documents and perform safety site inspections.
● Act as an on-site point of contact when required, including supervising sub-consultants (i.e. CCTV, vacuum excavation, etc.).
Qualifications:
● Minimum of 2 years of related experience in the utility industry.
● Valid ORCGA DPT Certification would be an asset.
● Experience with GPS data capture would be an asset.
● Valid driver's license with a clean Driver's Abstract.
● Willing to work outside in a variety of weather conditions for extended periods.
● Excellent communication skills.
● Team player with a positive attitude.
● Self-organizing, able to prioritize and manage projects.
