Financial Controller

Reporting to the COO, CEO, and President, the Financial Controller would provide leadership with respect to financial planning, forecasting, and the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures. The ideal candidate would be proactive and strategic. The key responsibility of the controller is to ensure accuracy and timely accounting records of the group of profit centres of The Church Brewing Company Ltd., wholesale, tap accounts, retail beer market and the restaurant.

Duties & Responsibilities Your tasks will include, but will not be limited to:

• Supervising and mentoring the accounting team.
• Budgeting, Forecasting, Cash flow analysis/projections and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports.
• Maintaining the integrity of the accounting system and inputs (General Ledger Maintenance, journal entries for bank transactions, cost reallocations, bank reconciliations).
• Manage the preparation of period end financial reporting.
• Preparing year-end audit files.
• Coordinate financial management (insurance, capital asset management).
• Implementing and monitoring an adequate control environment.
• Maintain Inventory control management.
• Perform account analysis to identify variances and discrepancies.
• Conduct regular account reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with Canada Revenue Agency; Payroll, WCB, Excise Tax.
• Monitoring and implementing policies and procedures relevant to accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory and payroll.
• Maintaining and/or establishing relationships with external suppliers, external year end and advising accountants, and commercial banker(s)

Qualifications & Requirements

• CPA designation with a minimum of 3-years of relevant Controller experience. Public practice experience prior to industry would be considered an asset.
• Leadership experience in a fast-paced organization managing multiple groups.
• Familiar with ‘best-in-class’ finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles.
• Have experience with short and long-term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
• Inventory management experience preferred.
• Procurement experience is considered an asset.
• Experience building strong working internal and external relationships.
• Problem solving focused on organizational and accounting effectiveness.
• The ideal controller would be tactical and strategic thinker.

Our brewhouse runs a 35HL 4-vessel steam jacketed brewhouse including: mash mixer, lauter tun, boil kettle, and whirlpool. Our cellar boasts eight 70HL fermenters, two 70HL Brite tanks, and a 5HL Pilot System with two 5HL fermenters. We operate a six-head Cask canning line running 30 cans/minute. Our produced beer includes ales and lagers; made both in the traditional Belgian/German styles , with other East Coast-style favourites.
