Metro Community Housing Association is a non-profit, community-based agency that provides support to persons living with mental illness. MCHA operates residential settings throughout Halifax and Dartmouth under the umbrella of Department of Community Services and has grown to 15 locations following the opening of our newest home in 2021.

Established in 1974, MCHA manages small option homes, group homes, complex care homes, a community transition house, and residential care facility. We also offer supported apartment services to those participants living independently.

POSITION SUMMARY

MCHA is seeking a Full-Time permanent Financial Coordinator who works as part of the Accounting Department and in collaboration with our Supported Apartment Service program. This role is responsible for the accounting duties of the program and assists in other areas of accounting as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responds to queries regarding client funding
  • Reviews and approves staff travel claims
  • Provides staff hours to Accounting and Payroll in accordance with departmental deadlines
  • Codes credit card statements and actions accordingly
  • Attends Accounting and Supported Apartment Service Meetings as required
  • Updates our Master Allotment Spreadsheet with funding changes and participant deductions
  • Provides back up to Account Payable functions related to the Master Allotment Spreadsheet
  • Completes additional staffing spreadsheets for Accounts Receivable
  • Reconciles between billed allotments and allotment expenses and completes the Supported Apartment Service account reconciliation
  • Completes journal entry to adjust prepaid expenses
  • Participates in bi-annual participation in the financial Audit
  • Allocates Cash Flow
  • Administers trust accounts
  • Attends and participates in organization events
  • Develops and updates procedures as required
  • Participates in special projects as they arise

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor degree in Business Administration or Commerce with a major in Accounting
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with detailed spreadsheets, analysis and reconciliation
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Excel Skills, and strong MSWord and Outlook skills

Abilities and Competencies:

  • Able to work overtime during budgeting, audits etc
