Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for a Fire Assayer with a competitive wage of $33.39 dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity with an additional short-term incentive of 10%.

The Fire Assayer’s primary responsibility is to conduct gold and precious metal analysis through standard fire assay techniques, including weighing, fluxing, fusion, and cupellation.

Perform following duties, with safety being the number one priority:

  • Carry out fire assay procedures, including weighing, fluxing, fusion, deslagging, and cupellation in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Prepare and carry out fire assay procedure on ore grade samples, pins and other high-grade gold samples.
  • Carry out basic preventive maintenances on lab equipment in the fire assay area.
  • Monitor consumables and supplies and liaise with Senior Assayer or designate to ensure that correct stock levels are maintained.
  • Assist Senior Assayer with processing of ore samples and to determine grade, value and mineral properties.
  • Identify and record any abnormal observations in the process.
  • Ensure that work order documentation is complete in every respect and quality control results are entered into data base as necessary.
  • Ensure that equipment is maintained in good order, making the supervisor aware of any damaged or defective equipment or any equipment requiring adjustment.
  • Practice good housekeeping and maintain a clean and tidy work area.
  • Comply with all occupational safety regulations, mine site and laboratory safety procedures, and requirements of SOPs.
  • Other duties as required by the Senior Assayer or Chief Assayer.

About You

Position requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Successful completion of High School (GED) combined with two to five (2-5) years in a similar work environment complimented with knowledge of chemistry and/or mineral processing. A Diploma/ bachelor’s degree in chemistry is advantageous. A combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • BC Certified Assayer is an asset.
  • Have the ability to work safely under minimum supervision.
  • Fire assay background, especially handling high grade ores is an asset.
  • Familiar with operating flux dispensing and mixing, multi-load and multi-pour systems.
  • Excellent communication.
  • Effective organizational, time management and analytical skills.
  • Basic computer skills including data processing (Microsoft Office).
  • Familiar with laboratory information management system (LIMS)

Additional Information

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 14 days on / 12 days off/ 2 days travelling rotation.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
  • Must be comfortable to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team.
