This position can be based out of Hydro One location across province of Ontario.
General Accountabilities:
Supervise and be responsible for the work of a group engaged in the area distribution engineering and meter service provider layout programs including meter reading.
Coordinate the work priorities of the area distribution engineering and meter service provider programs, line extensions, subdivisions, new connects, service upgrades and line services.
Collaborate the work program, monitor program status and report progress.
Assign appropriate portions of work program to subordinates supervisors.
Specific Accountabilities:
This position will fall under the Special Projects COM with various projects and accountabilities including:
Content Authority for Design Services Programs
Liaise with Training & Development Services on schedules
Assist in updates to training material
Support TDS in the Development of a Trainee Mentorship Program
Support TDS Development of Enhancement ADET Training, SDET Training, leave refresher training and other training that is relevant to Design Services staff
Within Design Services:
Trainee Rotation, Evaluation monitoring
Overdue training monitor (assist training Prime)
Implement DA Qualified criteria
Assist in Regional rollouts
Mentorship
- Supervise and be responsible for the work of a group engaged in the area distribution engineering and meter service provider layout programs.
- Plan and organize work group activity.
- Schedule and assign work to staff with instructions, direct them on their problem areas and review and evaluate their performance.
- Develop and implement work procedures and systems, required.
- Make effective recommendations on human resource matters including interviewing and selection of candidates and handle routine human resource problems.
- Establish performance measures and perform reviews.
- Provide clear expectations and meaningful feedback.
- Provide guidance, assistance and support to staff in the resolution of personnel problems and establish and maintain a healthy and safe work environment.
- Work cooperatively with Zone Coordinating/Scheduling group to ensue appropriate priorities are established for the area distribution engineering and meter service provider programs, line extensions, subdivisions, new connects, service upgrades and other line services.
- Collaborate the annual work program, monitor program status and report progress.
- Assign appropriate portions of work program to subordinates supervisors.
- Develop and implement changes in program to meet changing conditions.
- Review priorities and resources and take appropriate action to meet needs.
- Coordinate activities with internal and external forces, frequently requiring a high degree of diplomacy.
- Administer work management system.
- Prepare annual safety program using corporate and regional material as applicable to meet local needs.
- Provide safety leadership to the unit.
- Monitor effectiveness of the program by observation and review of incident reports.
- Participate in accident investigations, as required.
- Conduct safety analysis and identify and safeguard hazards for jobs not covered by established procedures.
- Identify hazards to all associated work units and advise supervisor, as required.
- Monitor work in progress through review of assignments with supervisors and field checks of jobs.
- Authorize corrective action where necessary.
- Administer and monitor outside lines resources (contractor and construction).
- Decide work to be contracted, arrange tenders and recommend awards.
- Routinely monitor work in progress, check for quality and safe work practices and take corrective action where necessary.
- Check progress invoices and recommend payment.
- Ensure appropriate tools and transport and work equipment to meet work program needs are available and maintained by work unit.
- Take action to ensure the security of equipment under section responsibility.
- Review distribution lines work methods throughout the region.
- Ensure that new work methods are effectively introduced.
- Make recommendations for changes in methods and associated equipment.
- Monitor staff needs and recommend improvement programs as appropriate.
- Arrange technical upgrading sessions as required.
- Oversee apprentice program to assure that training assignments are complete.
- Provide data and the necessary reports on section activities to supervisor.
- Perform other duties as required.
Selection Criteria
Essential Education:
- Requires a good knowledge of electrical and electronic theory related to the performance of distribution and metering operations, telecommunications, control and metering equipment and circuitry.
- Requires a knowledge of electricity and materials as they apply to transmission lines equipment.
- Requires a knowledge of computerized systems to manage system requirements. Requires good communication skills, both oral and written, to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts.
- Requires a good knowledge of English to prepare correspondence and technical reports. This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of Grade XII plus 3 years' further concentrated study.
Essential Experience:
- Requires experience with distribution and metering to establish contacts and to be familiar with the distribution and meter service provider layout programs.
- Requires experience with health and safety standards, equipment materials and work methods and to provide technical guidance and appropriate reaction in terms of emergency situations.
- Requires experience in developing procedures governing approval of requested equipment, staff, etc.
Requires experience to be familiar with project work and the coordination of the work of various work groups.
Experience with ADET role would be an asset
Experience with the HODS approval and change process as an author is considered as asset
- Requires experience in the supervisory aspects of the job as it relates to the handling of staffing and personnel matters, control & flow of work, etc.
A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
Additional Selection Criteria:
- Experience within the ADET role would be an asset
