YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education offers outdoor experiences that foster personal growth and build community. After taking part in our programs, children and youth return home more confident, independent, and with new friendships.
YMCA Camp Pine Crest is located on 650 acres in Muskoka, Ontario. The facility operates year-round with a large overnight summer camp program, summer day camp programs, growing winter programs and busy spring and fall Outdoor Centre seasons.
Kitchen staff are required to work as a team. Together they operate our dining hall, providing three meals a day to everyone staying on-site. All staff will play an important role of planning, preparing and presenting the meals for Outdoor Centre clients. Staff are responsible for maintaining a clean and healthy kitchen in accordance with the Ministry of Health. Kitchen staff will also be responsible for working with the program team to ensure a relationship of open communication within the camp. All kitchen staff are supported and supervised by Food Services Director. The Food Services Team is diligent in working with campers and families who have allergies and dietary restrictions, making sure that all campers havedelicious and nutritious food throughout their stay at camp. Food Service Team members have a lovefor food, working closely with others and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
This role requires the applicant to be physically active and on their feet for extended periods of time; working longer days; and communal living.
In this role, you will:
Continuously builds relationships with members, staff, volunteers and community partners
Under the supervision of the Food Services Director, prepare meals for Outdoor Centre clients and staff, including 3 meals daily, sauces, dressings, salad bar, baked goods and snacks
Understand and work with a variety of participant dietary needs such as vegetarian, vegan, celiac, halal, dairy allergies, etc
Understand the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with participants, volunteers, donors and staff
Perform other duties as assigned
What you need to succeed:
- Commitment to the YMCA’s Mission, Vision and Values
- Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services
- YMCA Competencies: Accountable, Relationship-Builder, Improvement-Orientated, Team Player & Leader, Equity and Wellbeing Promoter
You bring:
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C” required
- Food Safe certification required
- Experience in cook/hospitality role is an asset
- Experience working with food allergies and dietary restrictions an asset
- Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset
- Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays required. Average working week is 5 paid days
- Ability to work effectively with others as well as independently to achieve optimal collective results
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
